So, in my area, it costs $95,000 on average in just fees for the privilege of starting to build a house. That is a single house. Most of that cost doesn't change much depending on the size of the house so it forces the developers to build larger, more expensive housing because you cannot make a profit off of affordable housing when you are already basically at $100k for the privilege of sticking a shovel into the dirt. I bought my current place for $185,000 a decade ago. Even after adjusting for inflation, there is no chance of building this same place for anywhere near that price. I can't buy the dirt for less than $100k, plus $100k in fees, then what's left to pay employees and purchase materials? Not much.

How can a business stay in actual business if the Mafia (government) takes and then refuses to do what they promised?

Yes, it does mean you should stop building houses. At least stop building them wrong. These people and organizations are simple grandstanding for their own political/social benefit and are wasting immense resources that should be better spent. They are doing more harm than good and seem utterly clueless about this. There is a significant disconnect between their plans and reality. So yes, stop building houses that fall apart and that seems to be the intent of this article, not to stop completely.

Apparently you did not realize that California is a rather diverse place. Mudslides are not the only problem here. 1986 and 1850, 1852, 1862, etc. and just a quick search for Flood California brings back many disastrous results.

It is a big state and making absolute claims are rather ridiculous.

Yes, that's why the caribou population is teetering on the brink of a seven fold increase in population since 1975. There is no evidence that drilling affects them nor the other wildlife. It is a big place and the production facilities are actually quite tiny. KKK members were elected to the Senate (Robert Byrd was KKK and Democrat and served until 2010 when he died). If you are talking throughout American history, then you need to switch parties. Wow! Seems like the only thing you know about the geography of this country comes from watching TV.

Any of the southern states will have plenty of sun on nearly every day of the year so that the solar panels make a difference. All the northern latitude states have even longer summer days and should have plenty during the summer. All of California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas etc. have lots of sunshine during the year. Coastal places like San Francisco have intense cloud/fog cover that might be bad. Florida has much more cloud cover than any of the other states I listed. That's why electric cars have batteries.

Also, you are completely right about the golf cart. They have such low power requirements and sit for most of the time (plus are generally used in such sunny climates like Hawaii or California or even the 1000+ courses in New York) so that their batteries could be kept full by the panels and not actually ever need plugged in.

Consider that discharging a firearm into the air is illegal in most cities. Also consider that the vast majority of people don't have the privilege of owning multiple properties including a nice country home, we will almost all be defending ourselves in a city. Firing a warning shot is illegal in most states. So, Biden was most definitely advocating breaking the law when he said firing two warning shots into the air would be a good defense.

Also, try defending yourself inside your home with a 12 gauge shotgun. In California it is illegal to own a shotgun under 26" in total length (and most are substantially longer). With most hallways being around 36" wide, try navigating through your house holding broomstick in front of you and see how easy that is. And another problem, shotguns are extremely loud and will, most likely, blow out your eardrums if you fire it inside your house.

Having people who are clueless on firearms (or any other technology for that matter) writing laws dictating how we manage ourselves is a recipe for disaster.

Nothing really changed. We have anti-trust laws in place. We have fair competition laws in place. We have all sorts of existing laws in place that already protect the consumer. The #1 law we have is that capitalism actually works. Aside from the government mandated monopolies, there is adequate enough competition in the Internet access realm that keeps businesses from doing something absolutely ridiculously stupid and losing customers. Complain all you want about Comcast's bad customer service (it is still better than the DMV) but you have choice almost everywhere to use somebody else.

That's exactly government meddling causing problems. Many of the safeguards built in after that fiasco did stabilize and prevent more government funded catastrophes which were then manipulated to cause more economic catastrophesl. Take, for example, the Liar Loans which were a result of the government attempting (poorly) to help low income people purchase houses that they couldn't afford.
