Comment Re:Musicbrainz has a Similar Problem (Score 1) 207

Actually, Musicbrainz is quite open to this sort of thing. One of the suggestions I was given when trying to add a soundtrack which was included in a game's install (The Sims) was to put up a torrent and reference that, marking it as a bootleg. (I eventually convinced the naysayers that it was "official enough" as distributed by the game manufacturer)

Even more traditional albums released online are easy to get added (see: Santastic, The Kleptones, Wax Audio)

You mean like they did with Alien Swarm? Oh wait...

Nah, they’ll just release a (probably Source-based) standalone DoTA game, for free. Free games drive Steam accounts, which drive large numbers of purchases when other games are on sale.

Woman's Nude Pics End Up Online After Call To Tech Support 197

Tara Fitzgerald couldn't find the nude pictures she planned on sending to her boyfriend, but instead of just taking more, she decided to see if a Dell tech support call could fix her problem. Apparently the tech support guy found them. Unfortunately, he then put them up on a site called "bitchtara."

The ones who actually want to have a button to press for secondary functions, like reload, flashlight, “use”, crouch, jump, voice chat, display score, etc.

The arrow keys are nowhere near anything else, so good luck with that. The numpad is a little better but doesn’t have as many as WASD, and nothing nearby for the pinky.

I dunno, maybe you have one of those 12-button mice or something.

The Fruit Fly Drosophila Gets a New Name 136

G3ckoG33k writes "The name of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster will change to Sophophora melangaster. The reason is that scientists have by now discovered some 2,000 species of the genus and it is becoming unmanageably large. Unfortunately, the 'type species' (the reference point of the genus), Drosophila funebris, is rather unrelated to the D. melanogaster, and ends up in a distant part of the relationship tree. However, geneticists have, according to Google Scholar, more than 300,000 scientific articles describing innumerable aspects of the species, and will have to learn the new name as well as remember the old. As expected, the name change has created an emotional (and practical) stir all over media. While name changes are frequent in science, as they describe new knowledge about relationships between species, these changes rarely hit economically relevant species, and when they do, people get upset."
