Interestingly enough (to me, at least), I happen to be reading a Korean paper on the ubiquitous computing / wireless networks right now.

What I find interesting is that the concept has received government support and direction as part of a push to develop the "U-Society" (which I suppose is mean to be an abbreviation for "ubiquitous computing society"). In Korea, this is governmental industrial policy with the goal of making Korean industry a leader in producing "ubiquitously networked" products of all kinds. On the other hand, here in the United States, it seems like more of an matter of academic study and, perhaps, seen as a possible cost-saving (as opposed to profit-producing) technology.

Oh well, I guess FedEx and UPS don't mind buying all of their IP-enabled supplies from LG & Samsung if it saves them a few pennies.

WOOOOO! Impressive!

eh, not really...
What can Oracle offer with the "T5" that isn't offered better, faster, and/or cheaper on Xeon or Power?

Oh yeah, I forgot, Oracle can offer "register windows"... Wheeee!

Didn't Steve Jobs say publicly that a tablet any smaller than the iPad is useless as a tablet and if its bigger than the iPhone its useless as a phone, aiming directly at the 7" Android tablets hitting the market?

Yes, but concurrent with the release of the iPad Mini, Apple will be releasing the $99 iFile fingertip filer accessory so that eager users will be able to use the smaller screen more accurately. For $100 extra, the iFile Pro will include a bluetooth interface and 500MB extra RAM.

Do you hate your job? Are you only still there because you're waiting to vest? I feel your pain, brother. The only thing that kept me from leaving Netscape in 1997 and walking away from a dumptruck full of cash in frustration was this script. I ran this every morning for at least a year: it prints out the following motivational message:

Today's NSCP price is $__._; your total unsold shares are worth $____. You are __._% vested, for a total of ____ vested unsold shares ($____). But if you quit today, you will walk away from $____.
Hang in there, little trooper! Only _ years __ months __ days to go!

It's amazing how this script can put it all back into perspective and keep you from going postal and strangling someone. Fill in your numbers, and let it remind you not to do something you'll regret later.

As a non-supertechie Android user, I sure would welcome a more simplified way to root and install these files. I attempted it a month ago, following instructions laid out on Androidforums for my LG Virgin Mobile phone. Got it right up until the final step when it refused to accept the code that I know I was inputting exactly. Had to give up in frustration, glad it wasn't bricked, though. I'd love to have full control over permissions on my device, and to securely lock it down from any hack attempts. Thanks to /. for this heads up story.

Just disassemble the bootloader starting at breakpoint 0x10C08000 and look for the argument to CLD R0.
Once you've found that, you only have to patch the configuration file with the new value and reassemble the kernel userspace.
Then just flash the ROM with the resulting srecord file and you're good to go.
Anyone can do it.
