Submission + - Energy Tower Power Output Calculations

rohar writes: "When the previous article on this project was posted, although there was substantial positive feedback, there also have been many individuals that dismissed this concept due to lack of calculations of the energy output. Since the posting the math (pdf, html) for a medium to large sized implementation of this idea has been worked through for a northern climate installation.
Although the system has a much higher capital investment than Solar PV or wind turbines, the reliability and location independence allow this to be a base load electrical supply without long distance transmission infrastructure and to be truly renewable where geothermal has extraction limits.
What do you think of the idea with some basic mathematical proof behind the concept?"

Submission + - Open Project to Develop Renewable Energy System

rohar writes: "We have been working on a system that combines some existing indirect solar technologies to build a location independant, renewable, reliable and economically feasible indirect solar electrical power generation system. The idea is to "roll-your-own" geothermal source by capturing heat from the ambient air with a solar powered absorption heat pump, store it underground and generate electricity from the air cooling convection. When the air is cooler the stored heat is then used in a reverse process to generate electricity by transferring the heat back to the air when it is cooler (at night or seasonal). There are many additional benefits including clean water capture from the "dehumidifier" effect of the air cooling, construction from common materials and thermal storage that may be incorporated into dwelling heat systems."

Submission + - New Renewable Electrical Power Generation Concept

rohar writes: "I have been working on a system for clean, location independent and renewable electrical power generation that uses common materials and combines concepts from several existing low-gradient heat electrical generation systems.
The idea is to use a solar powered ammonia absorption heat pump system combined with a bi-directional chimney structure and underground thermal storage to "roll-your-own" geothermal source, independant of location. Power would be generated from both classic vapor turbines (as in low-temp geothermal) and from wind turbines in the chimney structure. The system would exploit the differences in temperature between the air and earth through day-heating/night-cooling and seasonal temperature changes to generate electrical power."

Submission + - New Solar Power Generation Concept

rohar writes: "I have been working on a design for an indirect solar electrical power generation system that is reliable, location independent, uses common materials, can be built architecturally pleasing and can be easily integrated into waste heat recovery, bio-fuel generation and/or biomass pyrolysis. The project has a long way to go, but I believe the ideas have the potential to become a dominant renewable energy source."

Submission + - Integrated Solar Community

rohar writes: "The Drake Landing Solar Community is a planned integrated solar community that is being built outside of Calgary, AB Canada. It combines solar thermal storage using Borehole Thermal Energy Storage, integrated solar collection and high efficiency homes into a new subdivision that will have 90% of the residential heating provided from stored solar thermal energy."

Submission + - Open Idea for Passive Solar Electric Power

rohar writes: "A project has been started to develop new ideas in renewable energy following the OSS principles. The first idea is based on some simple physics and exploits the differences in density between the earth and air and the effect of daytime and seasonal solar heating in a system to generate reliable electric power."

Submission + - Open Source Energy Project

rohar writes: "Free Energy News has a story on an solar energy project being started using Open Source philosophy. The design is based on simple Conservation of Energy principles and promises to provide scalable, cost-effective, efficient and environmental friendly electric power generation in almost any location in the world. The design was released on the Internet without a patent with the intent of moving the project quickly into implementation following Linux and other OSS project examples."

Submission + - Energy Tower

rohar writes: Physicaplus has an article for a clean energy system dubbed the Energy Tower, the brainchild of Professor Dan Zaslavsky. I think I have stumbled across an improvement to the design that makes the concept more efficient and usable in more locations. It is my hope that this idea can be built upon to provide a cheap and clean electrical energy source that is much more environmentally friendly and lower cost than other solar collection methods.
