We should go directly to Mars in a ship large enough to carry the crew comfortably as soon as possible not in a small Apollo type Orion spacecraft. NASA wants to save money to go both these places and what they should do is develop a large reusable crew comfortable ship that can be used for both missions without having to be rebuilt for each mission. I have a large DVD collection (about 3000) and I can tell you that a large number of them have already developed "laser rot" and won't play any more. How long they last varies from one maker to the next. Some of them are originals from the dawn of the media but others have failed and turned "brassy" in less than 5 years and no longer play. Surprise! I see a lot of failure from recent ones made in China. I've also had Verbatim DVD-R media that failed in less than 3 years.
