I still find that (and use) my.yahoo as a decent home page and news aggregator. In one simple information dense and not full of white space page I can see the stock quotes I am interested in, the weather, and news feeds from NPR, CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX, and general tech news. The UI supports 4 even width columns that you can place and rearrange whatever information blocks you want on. I have not come across better general "landing page" site that lets you generate a similar information-dense page.

Any suggestions for alternatives? My criteria for an aggregator page is that it is information dense (have I used that term enough times?), not full of wasted white space, not annoyingly low contrast, not full of ads (or is at least ad-blocker compatible), allows feeds (RSS or otherwise) from the major news outlets, and has decent stock portfolio (and related news) tracking.

Have you considered just making your own? It is pretty simple HTML/CSS to build the framework (and it can look as good as you care to make it look) and then just plug modules where you want. I'm sure there are plenty of places which would provide stock and weather widgets and I use rss.bloople.net to put RSS feeds into my homepage.

Hm, I replayed Fallout 4 recently, started in November I think, fnished in April. Which is a replay. $15/month for me is a massive increase in budget on games to be honest. You can't amortize the cost of your game over time, you won't see a game with 3 hours of total gameplay as being a waste of money or a game with 500 hours of game play as a great value.

And before my life got crazy busy this spring, I used Game Pass to play Streets of Rage 4 ($25 on Steam right now), No Man's Sky ($60), one of the Gears of War game ($20 on MS), OOTP 21 ($20), and Subnautica ($30), all within a 3 month span (~$155). I beat SoR4 multiple times (though I didn't finish unlocking everything), grew bored with No Man sky and Subnautica, and got too busy to play Gears and OOTP.

We can swap anecdotal evidence, no doubt, but to ignore the incredible value it has to gamers who wish to take advantage of it would be rather narrow-minded, especially when there is nothing in the subscription model which prohibits you from outright purchase (and, with Stadia at least, the subscription can provide a discount on purchase).

Also, I don't know what the titles are, but my guess is that it may be like Apple Arcade and chock full of fluff. Or games that are essentially just movies interspersed with a few Quick Time Events. But if it's like a typical video game you will need much better internet capabilities than anyone has today.

I'm not sure if they've released the cloud gaming titles for PC, but they have a fairly robust collection of games on Game Pass for PC and the current Android cloud catalog. And the "capabilities" will depend on what game you're playing. For example, I have PGA Tour 2K21 on Stadia, and it plays flawlessly.

But anyone with a high end internet like that can just download a game instead and get better quality.

But then you have to have the hard drive space required to hold it and you can only play that title/saved game on the machine you've downloaded it. Take Stadia's service, for example. Anywhere I have a Chrome web browser (which is everywhere, whether I like it or not), I can play PGA Tour 2K21, the same saved game.

I'm not trying to convince you a subscription model is better than a more traditional model. I'm just trying to show you it has its advantages too.

Back in the old days, we would have a bunch of cartridges, or CD's (for those youngans out there) that we would buy and then own. We could play these games for as long as we would like, then after no longer spark our interest, we could trade them with a friend for an other game they got tired of. You could sell them in a yard sale and get some of your money back, or trade them back at a game stop or something else... The thing is it was yours and it had value. A subscription means when you are done with it, that is is 14 bucks a month that you will not get back, or be able to trade for.

This is all 100% true and it certainly is a valid argument. On the flip side, however, if you average playing a game for 14 days (and play no other game during those 14 days), you can play roughly 2 games a month for $15. That comes out to 24 games a year at $180/year. Using the "old days" system, that $180 would be 3 games at new prices (~$60 a game) or 6 games at half price (~$30 a game).

In other words, you can play far more games at the same price, which is nice if you like playing a variety of games. And if you ever find one you REALLY enjoy, there's nothing stopping you from purchasing it independently of the subscription service. After all, think how much money you saved by not buying the "E.T. the Extra Terrestrial" Atari game on release day.

They are suing for what amounts to reputation damage. Sure, they ought to have expected that their videos would appear online at some point, but there's a difference between ending up on some obscure site or playlist, and ending up on a public site like PornHub, especially if PornHub actively promoted this content as well (which TFS suggests they did). If PornHub knowingly helped spread these videos far beyond the agreed-upon scope of distribution, they can be sued for the resulting damages.

Mindgeek had a legal contract with the abusers.

From at least 2011 until the end of 2019, MindGeek contracted with GirlsDoPorn to be partners in MindGeek’s Content Partner Program and Viewshare Program. In so doing, MindGeek created dedicated channels for GirlsDoPorn’s videos on MindGeek’s Tubesites containing trailer versions of the victim’s videos.

OK, reading about these guys, they were abusive etc (so deserve jail and everything) but the victims did willingly do porn, the main problem is that they were verbally told they would only appear on "DVDs in Australia". WTF. Stupidity like that can get you killed in other places, they were lucky.

You should read the complaint again. According to the complaint, they did not "willingly do porn". They were tricked and coerced, oftentimes while under the influence of alcohol and/or marijuana. They were initially told it would be for modeling, even signed a contract that said "beginmodeling" at the top of the contract. They were repeatedly lied to and exploited. They were bought tickets to fly to the location and then were told they would have to reimburse the flight and hotel rooms (when they obviously didn't have money in the first place). They were told the videos they shot would not be made publicly available and it was posted online in multiple locations. The company that lied to the women and abused them (to the point there are criminal charges against them) even purchased a website which was dedicated to doxxing them, which led to harassment and stalking. And Mindgeek actively courted a relationship with the abusers and even looked to purchase the company (and backed out when they learned just how much abuse was happening).

The women may be lucky in the sense they are not dead, but to say they are "lucky" is just untrue.

Obviously government and business are two separate issues with regards to free speech, so please understand I address only the latter. A business holds no responsibility to allow/promote deliberate falsehoods. It is not "bias" to try and reduce violent rhetoric or deliberate disinformation designed to cause harm. Censoring what you acknowledge is BS should not be concerning, so long as it is, in fact, BS and not just different ways to look at the same situation.

Casting actresses in a show is a "progressive ideology of the elite"? Perhaps in the 1700s, but it hasn't been for quite some time. You should look into making the leap into the 20th century. Being only 100 years behind the rest of us seems as if it would be an improvement for you.

Off-topic but my father-in-law is a fireman. He's said many times that the best way to ensure total destruction of your home and property in a fire is to have a metal roof.

I'm not an expert, but basically the metal traps all the heat and forces it downward and most firefighters (at least in my area) won't go into a building with a metal roof on it except only to save human life. And, even then, the chances of saving someone are lower.

Just something to think about.

Yes and the second Australia did, violent crime statistics went up. There are numerous stories of self defense cases gone right. Chicago just allowed conceal and carry licenses within the last year and a half, in that year and a half the murder rate has dropped to the lowest point since 1957 and has continued to drop. And if you want to decrease accidental death in this country, lobby for changes in Automobile penalties. That's still the number 1 killer in this country. But you'll never do that simply because it will impact YOU. You lobby for this because you are not a gun owner and do not understand the choice, so you decide that since we are nothing like you we must be unhinged and dangerous and our rights should be impinged.

Wow, nothing like using misleading statistics. Violent crime went up the first year or two in Australia, but (at least until last year, haven't checked 2013 numbers) had declined significantly. Chicago had some of the most stringent gun control laws and their murder rate dropped by half in roughly 20 years. I'm sure you knew those things and meant to post them in order to give a fair argument, but just forgot.

And if you cannot see the difference in a device intended for transportation and a device intended to hurt and kill, then I suspect you're probably not the person who should take up the flag for the pro gun cause.

No, it's fucking retarded at its face. So we find the children that need the LEAST amount of help, and give them the most help. Then we take the kids in the most trouble and flunk them out, punish them, hold them back a grade. The entire premise is idiotic. In this country we have trouble getting normal children the basic skills they need. Last I checked, our gifted students were doing ok. So lets start focusing on the kids that need it, and let the ones that gifted ones be gifted on their own.

I'm sorry, but your opinion is silly. Why are you interested in making everyone mediocre? How about we push ALL kids, not just the ones at the bottom? Whether it's publicly acceptable to say or not, the fact is most of the kids at the bottom will never advance past subpar. They'll be the manual labor, the janitors, the cooks, etc. And there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with that, any person providing for their family is okay in my book.

But the gifted children, they are the thinkers, they are the ones who will change the world. We need to be giving them every opportunity to succeed we can, and to hold them back simply because there are some kids who are not intelligent seems a completely backwards outlook on life. You're saying we should not provide assistance to the children who will change the world so we can instead focus on those who will work fairly unintellectual jobs. That makes no sense.
