I'm sorry, you are wrong. Unix-types have been sharing data between "programs" since they began - a pipe does exactly the same thing, except with flexibility. Windows share sounds like a crippled way to "share rich data", when a file works so well.

One of the pre-release test groups leaked a link to assets.minecraft.net leading to both the server and client jar files. Notch and jeb then made it clear that anyone could use it, as long as they had already paid (obviously).
What I don't understand is how you can have a "prerelease" leak, for a game that's still in beta...

Pretty sure the project itself just uses the character for the appearance. From what I know of it, it's just pronounced like the English word "love", without any particular accent.

The GIMP is a bit dodgy, yes; OpenOffice looks terrible, but DON'T use Word. (La)TeX is unbelievably better, and if you want a GUI, LyX is great. These are programs that are used professionally, and are orders of magnitude better than the ugly junk that is Microsoft Word. http://www.latex-project.org/ http://www.lyx.org/
