I still want to see it reported and publicized.

You can add Purdy (part of Sherwin-Williams) to your list of offenders.

These guys are all doing business in California. I wish they would be nailed based on this:
California's Business & Professions Code 17200 prohibits "unfair or fraudulent business act[s] or practice[s] and unfair, deceptive, untrue or misleading advertising".

Australia Says No to Internet Censorship 209

Brenton Fletcher writes "A nationwide protest rally against the internet censorship filter proposed by the Australian Labor Government was held today. Over 9,000 people were slated to attend. I was fortunate enough to go to the rally on the steps of Parliament House in Adelaide, South Australia. I heard speeches from the Digital Liberty Coalition, the Green Left Weekly, and other concerned members of the public." Reader mask.of.sanity adds a link to ComputerWorld's photo-heavy coverage of the gatherings.

Northrop Grumman Markets Weaponized Laser System 246

stephencrane writes "Northrop Grumman is making available for sale the FIRESTRIKE weaponized laser system. The solid-state laser unit weighs over 400lbs, sends/receives instructions and data via an RJ-45 jack and can be synchronized with additional units to emit a 100 kW beam. It looks like some piece of stereophonic amplification equipment out of the '50s. Or Fallout 3. The press release suggests that FIRESTRIKE 'will form the backbone of future laser weapon systems.'"

Submission + - The end is nigh for XP

SlinkySausage writes: "Computer makers have been told they'll no longer be able to get Windows XP OEM by the end of this year, despite strong ongoing demand for the OS. Analysts and computer makers are wondering if the move is premature given Vista's ongoing performance and compatibility issues. Dell recently said it would reintroduce XP on a range of machines due to customer demand but Microsoft will only allow this until the end of the year."

Submission + - Neutrinos -- and once again, symmetry is restored!

perturbed1 writes: A Fermilab press release today announced that MiniBooNE's latest results rule out the simple neutrino oscillation interpretation of the LSND experiment. Neutrinos have a tiny amount of mass, required by their oscillations, as observed in solar, atmospheric and reactor neutrino experiments. Combining these results with the LSND experiment's results required the presence of a *fourth* but "sterile" neutrino, breaking the 3-fold symmetry of particle families in the standard model! Symmetry in the particle kingdom has once again been restored. Standard model lives on!
