Comment Re:Not because there's only 1 (Score 1) 136

the drawback is that no one wants a G1, because it's a cheep plasticy lump of crap.

Ever used one? It's the only phone out there with a real QUERTY layout, with the ability to type CODE (yes, goddamn CODE) without synchronously hitting 7 keys, it has a trackball, so you can actually HIT the links in webpages, IT'S BATTERY CAN BE USER-REMOVED (I have two now, becoz it really is too small), the GMail/GCalendar/GAddressbook integration is completely transparent, theres literally thousands of free apps for it. But sure, if it ain't shiny and expensive, it's crap. Stay with your user-unfriendly manager toy, whether it's called an iPhone or a Blackberry.

The new law makes no specific reference to bricklayers, who frequently erase their fingerprints in the course of their working lives. "I suppose they'll get classified as disabled and will have to travel on temporary passports," Clayton said. (Emphasis mine)

Streaming Video Service Coming To the Wii 103

Gamasutra reports that Nintendo is partnering with a company called Dentsu to "distribute original streaming video programming via the Wii, with a 2009 launch confirmed in Japan, and an eye towards a later Western launch." According to a press statement, some of the videos will be free, and some will cost money. This will help to answer concerns that the Wii was lagging behind the other major consoles in video content.

Submission + - Aussie and NZ fans fed up with Nintendo (aussie-nintendo.com)

hinki writes: Interesting report made by a reader from Aussie Nintendo regarding the release schedule of Nintendo games in Australia.

From the article:
In an email to A-N, Davies said, "I have recently penned a formal report relating to the common delays of Nintendo's Wii software releases, specifically in the regions of Australia and New Zealand. After listening to your most recent Podcast, I can tell you too are concerned about this issue. Consumers around our regions are getting bullied and manipulated into unfair and borderline illegal region locking that prevents Wii owners from importing the much earlier released US versions of software."

I for one am sick and tired of waiting up to 6 or so months for an english game to come to Australia! It's good that we can import DS games, but we can't import Wii games as our console is region locked. The thing is, the console can support NTSC games (e.g. before the last Wii update, you could use the GameCube freeloader to play NTSC games on the Wii). So it's ridiculous that we have to wait so long for games.
Would be interesting to compare the release schedule of Nintendo Australia with the release schedule of Xbox and PlayStation in Australian compared to US/Europe.

Submission + - Germany passes "Anti-Hacker" law

RotHorseKid writes: German legislators have just passed the much-dreaded "Hacker Paragraph", which essentially says that all software that can potentially used as a "Hacker Tool" is outlawed. Somehow these IT-savvy legislators missed the fact that most of these tools are also used for intrusion detection. So, essentially all german Security Consultants, Network Administrators and other users of intrusion detection software are halfway in jail now.

Submission + - Russian Armoured Vehicle running on screws

An anonymous reader writes: Here is Russian armored military vehicle from the seventies which runs on a pair of giant screws. It was an old russian prototype of off-road vehicle which never made it to the production line. From the video it looks to be more maneuverable than a modern tank.

splatter writes: "A well-known individual to slashdot readers claims to have overcome restrictions on Apple Inc.'s iPhone, allowing highly technical users to bypass AT&T Inc.'s network to use the phone's Internet and music features. The iPhone does not have phone capability, but the iPod and Wi-Fi work. The site with his blog contains technical details for other hackers, as well as links to software necessary to complete the process. One potential use would be for an iPhone user living or traveling outside the United States to access the iPhone's music player and Internet service over Wi-Fi connections without using the phone. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070706/wr_nm/iphone_h acker_dc;_ylt=AlF67pTH3dplCOm8KCpiInYjtBAF"

Submission + - iPhone shunned by London

TobyToadstool writes: There's an extremely strange video on CNET showing a giant, depressed iPhone wandering the streets of London. It eats fried chicken, fights its way through the London Tube, does its laundry, and gets stuck in a phone box. Then the video shows it going to the cinema and narrowly avoiding a mugging. Stranger still, no one in London seems to be paying it any attention at all. By far the weirdest and funniest take on the iPhone I've seen so far.
