Although, on the flipside (ha!), even though it's on better grade vinyl, modern LPs are almost always cut from digital files which doesn't really help things. Good point on the Dolby C/Metal tape side though. I get fed up with people who remember tape as crap. It was often very, very good.

Never known an Atari 8bit to crash, ever. Must have been a faulty unit.

I'm buying one. It was my first computer, 48K version with 810 disk drive. Over the years I've sold off all my real hardware, bought it again, sold it again etc. It's too much hassle now with the prices, replacing caps etc. I've used Altirra on my PC for years for my Atari 8bit gaming fix but now I can have this in the lounge, a proper style joystick and know that it just works like any modern console. Plus you can side load other games. it's an absolutely perfect fit for me to get my nostalgia fix with minimal hassle.

There were a few similar generative programs for the Atari ST & Mac at that time such as M by Dr T Software.

And the Atari 800 easily had 2000 titles by 83, having been out 4 years by that point so I'm guessing the 2000 titles on the Apple II is a massive underestimate. Oddly, I knew only one person with an Apple II, the rest were Vic 20/Atari 800/Sinclair ZX users.

Not sure I understand this. I can buy a £20 interface (In the UK) to plug my laptop/iPad into a car and using free software read all the engine codes and for a small fee get upgraded software that also talks to the subsystems and other modules. Is that not the norm in the US?
