Comment Re:Purism Librem 5 (Score 1) 196

Like the other post two posts below there are definitely the hardware kill switches.  From puri.sm website:

"Use our unique hardware kill switches to physically disconnect WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular signal, microphone & camera."

The hardware kill switches are on the side of the phone, like old fashion dip switches.  You can't use software to workaround a circuit break.

Which may something you want if you don't want your cell phone to be tracked to the scene of your crime.   Or if you're a military general (with poor opsec skills) having your cell phone signal being targeted by opposing forces.

Comment Thermite? (Score 1) 327

If I recall correctly, the only thorough destruction by "fire" for computer hardware (including storage) are thermite grenades.   (Since a lot of storage is on SSD these days, they have to burn the chips also.)

Unfortunately due to the distributed nature of of blockchain, would not every node in that chain needs to have all grenades go off at the same time?  That would take a coodinated effort by several governments with their respective "agencies" that do that sort of thing.  And if any one country doesn't want to play that game, it won't happen.

Comment Sounds Like a Scene from Dr. Strangelove (Score 1) 145

Dr. Strangelove, talking about living years in mineshafts (just substitute "quarantine"):

"Naturally, they would breed prodigiously, eh? There would be much time, and little to do. But ah with the proper breeding techniques and a ratio of say, ten females to each male, I would guess that they could then work their way back to the present gross national product within say, twenty years.
