Pakistan Tries To Ban Encryption 185

An anonymous reader writes "Pakistan has a new Telecoms Law going into effect, which requires widespread monitoring of internet usage. In response, new reports are saying that the country is banning encryption, including VPNs, because it would interfere with the ability of ISPs to monitor internet usage."

Japanese Military Invents Tumbling, Flying Sphere 156

thebchuckster writes "A Japanese developer has released a cool, new sphere that is billed as being able to go where humans can't. The sphere is 17-inches, features eight movable rudders, and can hover in the air for at least eight minutes. While reaching speeds of up to 37 miles per hour, the sphere deftly moves through the air without much effort. It doesn't take much to get it up in the air and moving, and it will be adept at going into tight areas."

It kind of is wages, though, that and what goes along, i.e. the standard of living. To begin with, the working conditions in China are pretty bad, such as long hours and little pay. But then, there is this cultural attitude of obedience for the "good of the state" where people are willing to put up with crappy living conditions, small residences, living with parents, etc.

I wonder what it would take to teach the Chinese labor class to stand up for itself. Raising their standard would raise our own back up too.

Temporary Brain Changes Lead to Accelerated Learning 140

An anonymous reader writes "In an advance that could help the treatment of learning impairments, strokes, tinnitus and chronic pain, UT Dallas researchers have found that stimulating nerves in the brain accelerates learning in laboratory tests. When the juice was turned off, researchers monitoring brain activity in rats found that brain responses eventually returned to their pre-stimulation state — but the animals kept the ability to perform their newly learned tasks."
