An anonymous reader writes: Researchers at MIT just unveiled a new solar power generator that doesn't need sunlight to function. The button-sized power generator can tap energy from heat, the sun’s rays, a hydrocarbon fuel, or a decaying radioisotope, and it can run three times longer than a lithium-ion battery of the same weight. It is hoped that the technology may one day be used to generate power for spacecraft on long-term missions where sunlight may not be available.

autospa writes: "Security researchers Don Bailey and Mathew Solnik find a way to unlock cars and other vehicles via text messages. They used remote control and different telemetry systems to hack the car locking system by reversing the communication protocol and take a control over the GSM or CDMA mobile network servers using different text combinations send through the mobile, this technique is known as “war texting”. Common telemetry systems include MW Assist, GM OnStar, Ford Sync, and Hyundai Blue Link."

autospa writes: "Marvin Bernal, a Canadian engineering student and iOS enthusiast, discovered the iPad app hidden within the code of Facebook's iPhone app after Facebook released an update to its iPhone app. Version 3.4.4 had some fixes, but Bernal noticed the iPad app code almost immediately and tweeted it for everyone to see."
