Comment Ogg/Opus is Vorbis' successor (Score 4, Informative) 148

The Ogg container format is extremely versatile. Just look at what it can do with metadata compared to any other format.

The Opus codec supports up to 255 channels and sounds very good at lower bitrates compared to others.

And it's all F/OSS. I don't think there's anything else out there today that can claim all of these things at the same time.

Comment And still people use Slack (Score 2) 32

Even with all of what Jabber/XMPP has done over the years, it's really sad to me that all of the mainstream seems to use proprietary solutions that actively block (at least when they get big) true interoperability with other systems. Slack, Discord, for group stuff, for instance.

I guess it takes an incredibly courageous company to develop the next big thing on open standards?

If it ain't broken, don't fix it.

No, it's not broken. In fact, I'll argue that the differences here make distros more resilient. If everything was done the same way under all distros, then we'll see a surge in malware, (successful) exploits/script kiddie shit, etc..

Let's not morph into one giant glob of shit. That's why I moved away from Windows and M$ products.

It's different, yes.. Different is good.

Comment Honda is already looking past GM (Score 1) 181

Looks like Honda's already going out on their own with EVs, very recently introducing that they're bringing back the Prelude, EV style. Having been a Prelude owner for 20 years, I think it's a great move. Maybe not "cheap", but it will likely be received very well by the consumer market.
