Comment What the world really needs is less available jobs (Score 1) 126

I'm really looking forward to seeing 2 actors, a director, and a computer on screen when they do the "This is who your ticket price supports." clip for those movies.

Despite how you feel about entertainment value and film quality. People depend on those jobs to live.

If a movie isn't made by people I'm going to go out of my way to make it easy for people to pirate it. They're complaining that genz/milenials aren't buying enough of product XYZ, then they turn around and outsource every job because it's cheaper. Our society is sick.

Comment He's a blowhard (Score 1) 285

His whole brand is based off spouting off about the thing that the media is fixated on. More often than not he fumbles around until he loses interest or it falls apart. Occasionally it pays off, but statistically that is going to happen.

If I inherited a fortune and threw that money at everything I could get my hands on, I'd have a handful of successes to brag about too. Except I wouldn't be pathologically trying to get my face on the cover of every media fascination because I'm not a self obsessed nincompoop.

Comment Not possible (Score 1) 122

There is no way to stop people from accessing porn if they want it. Porn on the internet is there, it's not going away. If you want to help kids grow up in a world where the internet exists and where it doesn't turn them into monsters, you need to deal with it through parenting or education.

Comment Basic Psychology (Score 1) 177

I've always been surprised by the amount of enthusiasm that some people have towards VR. Our primary sensory organ is our eyes, and VR replaces the images that we see with something that isn't there. On a primitive level, it removes our ability to ensure that there aren't any threats in the environment. In order for someone to be willing to do that regularly, they need to feel extremely secure. Not many people do.

AR is a different matter altogether. It doesn't remove our ability to perceive our environment with our eyes, it simply adds entertainment features to it. In many ways that is exactly what media is doing already. Many people were horrified at the idea of Google Glass, however, despite privacy concerns, it's the next step for entertainment media.

Comment Re: Republicans (Score 1) 337

The bill to ban TikTok is a bipartisan effort, so I think it's fair to say it cancels itself out. Also, I'm not sure the call to murder conservative speakers is crazy. If you went back to pre-Nazi Germany and suggested that they use whatever means necessary to stop the Nazis from taking over the government; not many people would agree that it's a crazy idea, hindsight being 20/20.

All that aside, anything as large as a political movement the size of the republicans or democrats are going to have some crazy. It's deluded to claim otherwise and I don't think anyone is. However, when you take a splinter of the democrats and compare them to what is becoming the majority of the republicans, it's not an apples-to-apples comparison.

Comment Re:Gravity vs IQ (Score 1) 186

IQ tests don't measure intelligence exactly. IQ test measure ratings of people in general aptitude for several different areas, such as spatial reasoning, puzzle solving, mathematical aptitude, etc. Typically, the intelligence of the people who perform well in IQ tests tends to be high, and vice versa. While it's not an exact measure of intelligence, it is reflective enough that it is considered a good enough metric.

Comment Re:ADHD (Score 1) 98

It's a neurodevelopmental disorder. It can be difficult to cope with modern life if you try to approach things like a neurotypical but you can learn strategies that make it easier. People who have legitimate ADHD should be given the option to learn those strategies instead of being told by amateur doctors on the internet that their problems don't exist.
