Comment In India they do care.. (Score 1) 432

Here the AICTE has recently published a notice to use FOSS software wherever possible. 2 years back we used Turbo C++(can you believe that!) for compiling data structure programs but the other day I saw the new students using Geany in ubuntu to compile them! Also in our college we have common internet cafe for the students and all 200 of the pcs have fedora installed.

X-Men: First Class 226

I wasn't sure what to expect from the new X-Men: First Class movie. The previous 3 films have been riddled with ups and downs. What I didn't realize is that this film was going to really be a Prequel. I thought it was going to be a bit more of a reboot, but it still tries to fit in with the previous films. Read on for a brief review which will contain some spoilers. You have been warned!

Submission + - Hardware Vendor Offers Backdoor with Every Product (threatpost.com)

Nameisyoung007 writes: A support page, titled "Backdoor Password for Allied Telesis Devices" recently turned up on Google. The page, labeled ***INTERNAL ONLY*** was written to answer customer questions like "'How do I obtain a backdoor password for my Allied Telesis device?'" and includes instructions on accessing a "built in Backdoor function" on any Allied Telesis device.

Probably a good time to double check your devices, just to make sure you're not affected.

Submission + - Graphene - the 21st Centry's revolution. (bbc.co.uk)

An anonymous reader writes: "Our research establishes Graphene as the strongest material ever measured, some 200 times stronger than structural steel," mechanical engineering professor James Hone, of Columbia University, said in a statement.

"It would take an elephant, balanced on a pencil, to break through a sheet of Graphene the thickness of Saran Wrap [cling film]."

"[Samsung has its] own roadmap where they believe there will be a dozen products [on the commercial market] using graphene in the next five years," says Dr Geim.

But companies like IBM and Nokia have also been involved in research. IBM has created a 150 gigahertz (Ghz) transistor — the quickest comparable silicon device runs at about 40 Ghz.

Choosing the classic desktop from the login screen is a click away, don't get why people are shouting and whining so much. Unity will take at least another cycle to mature. The most disturbing thing is that canonical have not provided a helpful unity development guide for geeks to jump into and have a chance to give back to the community.
