I am Gernan, having lived in the US and now Canada. My oldest was born in the states.

As a student in Germany we were required to study Fascism and Nazism is detail, how these movements developed and what characterizes them such as:

(1) Cult of personality
(2) Conspiratorial word view
(3) Designated minorities to blame for all ills
(4) National Chauvinism

The latter maps directly to "America First".

(3) That's now Trans, Gays and Jews. Same minorities the Nazis targeted, just in reverse order.
(2) Election were stolen, China virus, ant-vax etc.
(1) Just go and look at a Trump rally.

Historians have been ringing the alarm bells for years. Slowly this reaches the mainstream.

There exist proven designs to produce nuclear energy with non-critical reactor mass i.e. these plants cannot experience a runaway core melt and are considered inherently safe.

As a bonus they can reuse spent nuclear fuel and transmute it into far less problematic nuclear waste (with dramatically shorter halftimes).

If it was to prompt itself it'll be like a dog chasing it's own tail. There's no there there.

it's already moved way faster than anyone expected and that trend isn't stopping.

Nope . Not if you've been involved in this space. I was impressed the first time I saw a LLM being able to process a news article and correctly answer questions about it about five years ago. If anything I am surprised it took so long to get to where we are now.

Then again I shouldn't have been. After all, I saw Mercedes-Benz demoing an artificial neural net based autopilot in the nineties (highway only). Never left their research labs back then.

LLMs are inherently limited by what they can do based on their architecture. They are a great stepping stone towards true AGI, and I have a pretty good idea what will be needed to get there, but IMHO it's absurd to be afraid of the current crop of models.
