Comment Re:Fix it with some careful regulation (Score 1) 340

Not sure what AirBnB was doing to our neighbourhood of Adachi in Japan, but it was likely the only way we could afford to live 3 months of the year in Japan. Our tiny apato was $1500/month. We didn't need to hand over key money or do anything super complicated as you usually would renting in Japan. It removed all of the friction and provided us with a nice space to live.

Only problem was the fsck-ing NHK dude who came by. :)

That and Adachi was supposedly a bad neighbourhood. In contrast to north america it was just... a gray neighbourhood and it happened to have a prison. Oh... and lots of younger families.

I say this as a Canadian from Toronto, which is apparently one of the worst cities for trash in North America. So you can see why I'm incensed when people scoff at the idea of being -even remotely responsible-.

But I'll still keep being that asshole who calls people out on their shit. Throw your trash on the ground where I can see it, yeah, I'll say, "Pick up your trash asshole."

Just want to make it that tiny bit less comfortable for some douchebag to shit up my city. It's OUR city. Not your messy dorm room.

North Americans are too comfortable with just MAKING YOUR OWN MESS SOMEONE ELSE'S PROBLEM.

Just pick up your damn litter, for a start. Keep it in your pocket. Carry it to the trash can.

Secondly, don't take all of the disposable crap a store gives you! Take your own cup, your own cutlery. There are tiny ones that fit in your pocket or a bag.

Third, if you see a mess, make it your problem if reasonable. You can wash your hands afterward. North Americans seem to have a problem picking stuff up or holding on to it for 5 minutes because it's "icky". You just ate that ice cream cone, the package isn't any more icky yet than when you ate it. Put it in the trash.

BUT YES, THE ANSWER IS TO USE A MULTI-USE STRAW. They exist, they're simple to carry, and it's the responsible thing to do.

Sooner or later ASICS will cause the difficulty of Etherium and other alt coins to skyrocket too. So maybe at that point the used video cards will dump onto eBay and after a few months of not selling at dumb prices there might actually be decently priced ones.

I'm guessing I'll buy a nice 1080 by about 2020.

Yeah I'm holding off on buying a good video card until I can pay a non-inflated price for one. I'm not holding my breath, though. I think this whole race will get a lot weirder before it gets better. On the good side, the next generation of cards might push down the current generation enough to be usable. Game developers can no longer rely on a reasonable amount of people to have the new cards. So their "High" settings will have to be a generation older than usual, and the "Ultra" setting had better run at least well on this generation in 4k.

Sneezing into your elbow pit just contains the damage and unless someone grabs your arms before you get a chance to wash them, contains the problem.

I've noticed my AMD FX hex-core desktop at home hard locking but I got it second hand from a friend. Still not really sure if it's just in need of some adjustment. The CPU itself runs cool as a cucumber.

Hard-locking only started happening after the update but that may be a co-incidence.

It happened once when my cat for some reason decided it was a smart idea to chace something between the case and the wall and wobbled the whole thing by jumping up on top of it.

I don't use spinning-magneto-rust anymore but maybe a cable is loose. :)
