You can buy DVDs from overseas but not rent, it seems.

They tried to block that too. When DVD was first invented, they added "region code" to each disc and region lock to standalone players and soon also DVD drives in computer. Open source projects took effort to circumvent/bypass them. Cheap players manufactured by China ignored them. And now you forget what the film industry have done in the past.

Same scam as electric cars' or heat pumps' mileage and emissions and efficiency figures being quoted at the plug, not at the generating station.

Heat pump is so efficient that there are even "gas driven heat pumps", using gas provided from existing pipe network to power modern heat pumps for heating purpose.

So you mean all the genocides and massacres "in over 200 years" of modern world history are all "hypothetical"?

Or do you mean the public Americans are not moral enough to own guns responsibly, but the "elite" Americans are magically moral enough to own absolute power responsibly? USA got the strongest military over the world. If it turns into a dictatorship, it is almost impossible for other countries to stand up together and win the fight.

If your answers are "no" for both questions, I would like to hear your rationale in detail.

Your misleading example only applies to forums and discussion boards that are clear what is on-topic and what is off-topic.

For big social media that give people their own profile page and post their own thought, your example doesn't apply. Forums and discussion boards that ban every politic topics are okay. Big social media that amplify political camps the boss like and silence camps the boss dislike, all while pretending the platform is a social tool for all people, are NOT okay.

Mostly agree with you. But for off-grid unwired transport, standard battery may not be the best choice. It may be the weather being too cold there, or it may be the battery is too heavy to carry for extreme long distance. There is a tipping point where energy density surplus (read: lighter vehicle/plane/ship) trumps the energy inefficiency in manufacturing the organic chemicals.

At that point, methane/LNG, propane/LPG, ammonia, or maybe even hydrogen can be better solution.

While mDNS does use .local, mDNS is a protocol for intranet, and it secured the .local domain from being registered in public internet forever. I don't think it is strictly impossible for mDNS and local DNS to share the .local domain (and why would one need to run both in the same intranet anyway?)

You think "focus follows mouse" has been gone for good? Such stupid idea still lingers in Linux. If one scroll down a dialog created by GTK and the mouse reach a textbox with up/down arrow, the scroll wheel will suddenly stop scrolling the page but "scroll" the textbox content, increasing/decreasing the number within. In combination of GTK tradition of no OK/Cancel button but take effect of setting changes immediately, the UI experience is horrible.
