Comment Wow! A Numeric Processing Unit! ...oh, wait (Score 1) 127

A /cough "Neural" Processing Unit? I despise people who type "lol" but, y'know... this is hilarious.

So, what does it do? Anything? There is a suspicious lack of specifics. Does it add a couple of short-term memory cells to your AI "girlfriend"? Can it more seamlessly transmit your passwords to Microsoft?

You have some points, but you're a remarkably crabby old man. Ok, apparently people shouldn't try to do anything about pollution? What is your alternative proposal? You do have a proposal, right? Right?

By "a whole bunch of eco-warriors", I take it you mean "five hippies in 1978", but I get that you're a Republican. Nobody else is terrified of hippies or even takes them seriously.

Of course big companies will lie to you. We should aim to hold them accountable.

I gather that you think people turn to drugs because they're poor. Umm... some of them become poor because of drugs but, otherwise, I am not seeing a strong connecting link there. I might recommend more readily-available psychiatric care. Plus, of course, it's probably nice for people to have food and housing anyway.

Apple did not have a "typical walled-garden approach" at the time. The massive success of the Apple II series was due, in a large part, to all of the documentation being available, with detailed hardware and software specs. This was in contrast to all of the other computers you could get. Steve Jobs hated that! ...although the approach later lead to the wild success of the IBM PCs, while the closed Mac systems became a weird boutique item.

I'm not usually this sort of person, but I'm beginning to think the solution to ransomware gangs needs to be covert military operations.

Overt. Overt military operations. First, take out all the executives at Fidelity for implausibly loose security standards that would even allow such a breach to occur. Second, take out the ransomware gang.

We can send the Fidelity execs to Gitmo for a decade or two, if they survive.

That certainly sounds dire, doesn't it? The story there is that the community was previously using water that was not allocated to it, had plenty of time to get that cleared up, and decided to just ignore the problem. It was a totally self-inflicted issue caused by complacent stupidity.

Of course, Arizona is Republican territory, so.

It seems like all of the big tech companies are pushing this imaginary "AI" scheme. I'm sure it's profitable at the moment but, there's nothing but a breath of air in those bubbles, and the soap is drying out.

So, what are we thinking? NASDAQ collapse next year, or later this year? Major recession?
