Comment Spotify's algorithmic echo chamber (Score 1) 14

Having been a little frustrated with how mundane Spotify's algorithmic playlists were getting, I loaned my phone to a friend for a few hours over the Xmas period, and invited them to play whatever music they want in Spotify.

The Spotify playlists have now completely backflipped and are playing virtually no media from my previous echo chamber.

Whilst the change is refreshing, its clear that Spotify is still stumbling around in the dark where music categorisation and variety is concerned.

To me, its interesting to see the chatbot's responses when I ask them about how they might resolve the 'simultaneous reveal' issue. For example, Llama doesn't even get the rules of RPS right. When confronted about the concept of a simultaneous reveal, its responses were little more than 'I don't know, lets play again'. No big surprises there.

When I did the same thing with ChatGPT (3.5), I got a sensible discussion about the complexities of simultaneous reveal, and what it would mean to allow a chatbot to process and interact with humans independently of a textual input vehicle.

I'd be keen to see how ChatGPT 4 handles it.

Comment The problem is not technology, its capitalism (Score 1) 211

Technology is not good nor evil. It is a tool. It simply accelerates everything else.

The problem is that capitalism inherently distills wealth to the people who are most willing to exploit it.

Technology is like steroids for capitalism.

Capitalism rewards the people with the lowest moral fiber. Always remember that the giants of industry, the billionaires, the elite... they're the problem. They are the people with the lowest moral fiber. They are the people willing to exploit anyone or anything for their own personal gain. And the wealthier they are, the more they are the problem. When the rest of us stop idolizing them, we'll be able to start figuring out how to distribute the wealth more equitably, whilst still being able to reward people who go above and beyond.

At that moment in time, technology will become our friend instead of our jailor.

Its less about the little guys being unable to implement them. Its more about Google continuing to slander everyone else (eg calling every non Gmail client a 'less secure client' even though Gmail is not the most secure) and now positioning themselves as the policeman. You can't be both the referee and a competitor, and when you're this corrupt, you shouldn't be either.
