James Webb participated in an LGBT purge in the Federal government back in the day. No matter how good a NASA administrator he was, he doesn't deserve a telescope to be named after him. The name was assigned without any input from the scientific community. Yeah, that is the prerogative of the NASA administrator, but it was unusual to name a mission after a non-scientist. Just as it is important to remember Werner von Braun's contribution helping us get to the Moon we cannot forget his Nazi past, we must remember Webb's contribution, but they deserve no memorials for their past.

That does sound more plausible. If only someone hadn't removed our disease monitors from China, disbanded our pandemic response team, shelved our pandemic response plans, ignored the pandemic until it reached our shores, downplayed the severity of it, saiid it would go away, and did everything possible to make it hard for states and hospitals to control the pandemic or get access to PPE.

Removing Lake Powell would only be a stop gap measure, but it would save Lake Mead for a few years. What needs to happen is to re-allocate the Colorado River water based on current drought levels (not on the 1930's above average levels) and change how farmers use water. Agriculture uses far more water than cities. Also stop growing crops that use a lot of water in the desert. Farmers will adapt if given the right incentives like subsidies to switch from wasteful flood irrigation to more efficient forms. It doesn't help that we are draining the aquifers in the southwest causing subsidence and fissures in the land. Ultimately, big cities like Phoenix will have to be abandoned because of global warming.
