Thief Returns Stolen Laptop Contents On USB Stick 352

While it's true that Sweden is responsible for unleashing IKEA and ABBA on humanity, not everything they produce is terrible. Their thieves are some of the most considerate in the world. An unnamed professor at Umeå University received a USB stick with all his data after his laptop was stolen. From the article: "The professor, who teaches at Umeå University in northern Sweden, was devastated when ten years of work stored on his laptop was stolen. But to his surprise, a week after the theft, the entire contents of his laptop were posted to him on a USB stick. 'I am very happy,' the unnamed professor told the local Västerbottens-Kuriren newspaper. 'This story makes me feel hope for humanity.'"

Jeff Bezos is crying all the way to the bank. Look at the fortune bezos has amassed using free and open source software to fuel his fucking DRM infested toy. Somewhere in the background I can hear Steve Jobs yelling out, "Yeah...you go bezos. That's the way FOSS was meant to be used. I can hear the pleading cries right now. Oh god help us all. How can anyone live on less than $2500,000 a year. The humanity of it all. I salute those poor souls with a single finger salute. Hell has a special place for these assholes.

I can see the nursing homes getting their hands on this. Now they will have another reason to not look after their patients. The best part of all. They will be able to add another $100.00 per day to the nursing home daily billing. Not to worry, as I am sure there will be some enterprising young open source entrepreneur who will offer this to us old time nix babies. Oh poop! I can't remember if I took my memory pills or not.

Apple remonds me of the old TRS-80 days when Radio Shack was screaming at the top of their lungs that they had the real deal. A lot of people bought into their logic and they are probably the same ones that are buying Apple today. Well along with there kids and grandkids. CPM was good for it's time and Seattle Computing did not offer much more than what we already had. It's too bad that we will never know what would have happened if Gary Kildall had gotten his foot in the door. Sure as hell couldn't have been any worse that the lot we ended up with. My profuse apologies to Linus Thorvald of course. Did not intend to include him with the current lot, but then he came into the scene much later and with an optimistic view.

I was kind of wondering how far down the comment line it would go until I hit something about Apple. Thank you for making your well analyzed point of view. Kind of makes me wonder how long it will be until Steve Jobs and his patent trolls start running screaming. It's mine, mine, all mine. We thought of it first and we'll sue anyone who even thinks about implementing this. Just think, in several generations down the road, our children won't have to be party to these petty ego bruised megalomaniacs. Well maybe not. Who knows what new batch of them may just crop up. This is a cool concept though and I thought the scanning aspect was especially slick, at least for being a prototype. Just think of all the wonderful concepts that will be forever buried by the egomaniacs that pervade this industry. An industry that many of us have devoted so much time to. Loved the comment about the messy desk. So true, who has a desk like that?
