So, maybe I'm conflating this and trying to make it too simple, but wouldn't Apple be likely to release drivers for their graphics card (as well as any other custom blobs) for Darwin? From that, would one (or a group) be able to (through parallel construction due to BSD v GPL licensing) reverse engineer a Linux driver for the graphics card and the like?

I know just enough code to be dangerous (so I usually stay away from it), so I'm admitting my ignorance and seeking some insight from those who know better around here.

Apple has already released Darwin for M1 Macs on their https://opensource.apple.com/ page. This includes their Mach microkernel and almost all of the userland. I downloaded the XNU kernel and a bit of grepping found a lot of USB code in there. But I suspect it would be a lot of work to extract it all to Linux, and why would you bother? You already have an entire UNIX available in MacOS itself.

In many countries in Europe, excess deaths are way up for the elderly, but more like a bad flu season for all other ages. Demographics are certainly going to play a role in case outcomes and mortality, but âoenot deadâ is also a pretty low bar for recovery. Since 1975, the US has gone quite a bit backwards in metric-ification of the transportation system. Many major US highways have, since then, renumbered all their exits to match the mile markers of the highway. And people have become very aware of miles per gallon.

Of course, temperature, weight, height, and most practical everyday measurements are all also non-metric. About the only metric thing a typical American buys is a 2-liter bottle, and those come in 2 or 3 liter variants-- both referred to as "2-liter bottles." (No joke. "2 Liter" is like a brand name for a big bottle of carbonated beverage.)
