You don't understand, yes, you're quite right. The premise of the whole emissions thing is wrong. CO2 is not a problem and neither are Nx gasses. Now unburnt fuel is a real problem, but that can be dealt with, it is being dealt with, in most modern cars.

The fact that VW cheated the system is cause for concern, but the ridiculous unscientific assumptions that the regulations are based on, they are real cause for concern! . Say No to COP21!

CO2 emissions of cars are pretty much irrelevant! CO, NO and NO2 are worse, but since they are heavier that air, they don't hang around for long either. It's their corrosive nature which may cause the only real problem in the long term, but that is hardly a big problem!

For 18 years the world has not warmed , yet CO2 has increased substantially. On the other hand, the amount of CO2 in the air is miniscule. Just understanding how little CO2 actually is in our atmosphere shows how totally ridiculous the claims of the catastrophic warmists are, but don't let logic and reason get in the way of a good witch hunt!

Just to stir the pot a little more: Say No to COP21! Think of the children! :-P How will they pay all the carbon tax their parents foisted on them??

The fundamental premise that underlies the whole IPCC "science" is false. An atmospheric greenhouse does not exist, at least not in the way described by the greenhouse gas fear brigade. Yes, the science is clear and anyone taking the time to read it will see that the whole carbon reduction frenzy is nothing more than a circus for and of the bamboozled.

Dr Christopher Essex says: "I have been at this for more than 30 years. I got to madness as a conclusion long ago. But now I have accepted that humans are inherently limited...". He wrote about it 10 years ago in his book Taken by Storm. Now Joseph E. Postma has come to the same conclusion.

Why don't people open their eyes, read the material, and stop this ridiculous scam?

That's what happens when people start taking Salon seriously on matters of science, like climate and weather in this case. Submission + - Obvious flaw in AGW theory clearly explained again

TheRealLifeboy writes: The flaw in the primary anthropogenic global warming pillar, the postulation of a radiative greenhouse effect, has been exposed before, but somehow, possibly for nefarious reasons, it gets ignored by those with vested interests in the perpetuation of the idea that we are warming the planet and can somehow stop doing it.

Joseph Postma has published a paper on arXiv that shows the fundamental error that underpins all of climate change theory as it is being pushed by the IPCC.

It turns out his professor at the Department of Applied Mathematics at the University of Western Ontario has written about this 10 year ago already in his book Taken by Storm , but, as he says: "I have accepted that humans are inherently limited" and "On things like this people behave like drunks whose ignorance is above .08 but there is no social pressure to make them refrain from driving."

Translation: if Mann can not convince unreasonable people, then this means he is factually in error.

Nope. There are no scientists that dispute the laws of gravity. They have been established solidly. There are however many learned and accredited scientists who do offer credible counter arguments, data and analysis to Mann's version of reality. There is a difference between the two and for good reason: The former is settled, the latter not even by a wild stretch of the imagination. The problem is, as soon as a scientist says there's something wrong with AGW theories, a plethora of shills, paid minions and other members of the afore-mentioned lynch mob, make such a racket that it is very difficult to hear and see common sense and proper debate with which the man in the street can make up his mind. It's the suppression of scientific dissent, the defunding threats and risk of getting fired, that is the true cause for concern, not the small chance that AGW might actually be happening. It's the killing-off of true science and the scientific method by "consensus science" at the hand of mass media that is alarming in every sense of the word.

I disagree. The problem here in the first instance, as someone else has already pointed out, is that the EPA doesn't actually test the emissions! How stupid is that? Hooking up a car's exhaust (tail pipe, for US slashdotters!) to an emissions tester should be the only way to get a new vehicle certified for sale. And the manufacturer doesn't get to supply the vehicle, the EPA should select a random one. To be repeated every month on a new set of random vehicles.

Yes, VW defrauded the EPA and them alone, unless they advertised specific emission standards to the public which were not achieved. However, that is what almost all corporations do, unless they know they can't get away with it. VW knew the EPA won't test their vehicles, so they said, what the hell, let's fool them since we can. And so they did.

This is what's wrong in the US. The watchdog asks Monsanto: Are your poisons safe. Monsanto says, yes, they are. Watchdog says it's safe now. Replace Monsanto with other corporation's name. Repeat.

Of course the next question is: What do they do with $18 billion annually??

Of course, the false assumption that CO2 is detrimental in any way to our environment, makes the whole house of cards that is built by wrong legislation, collapse. NO2 is heavy and doesn't float around and oxidises other materials easily, so in the long term ( a day or longer) it has no effect on our air. In the short term (high motor vehicle traffic volume) it is a problem, so lowering emissions of it is a good thing, but then do it for the right reasons, not for brain-dead AGW hysteria reasons.

If the science was as good as Mann and his bunch of lynch-mob fans have claimed, it would be indisputable. But as it is, the science is poor and in cases downright fraudulent and pathetic by any real scientific standard. So of course it will be disputed and so-called consensus science will be denied it place, since it's not how science works. No matter how much the lynch-mob hollers and howls, no matter how much they wave their green pitch forks and sticks, they can't fix the fact that the climate hypothesis has been proven wrong time and time again by it's failure to meet the expected outcome. Only because journalists and politicians have been dumbed down to the astounding level of scientific stupidity that they have, is the political agenda of the catastrophic climate change bandwagon still rolling, albeit slower and slower. Soon it will come to a halt and be relegated to the trash-can of history where other hysterical history movements lie in wait for it.
