Anti-MAGA/Trump voters who still adhere to the party are offering cover for the extremest elements. We are far beyond the point of their being a middle ground. Rejecting the Republicanism is the only way to support democracy and our constitutional form of government. This may not be true in the future, but it is the de facto situation right now.

One obvious difference is that the test cities all have mostly good weather. It's true for both SF and LA, and even other places like Phoenix where open road tests have been run. Not much rain and no snow at all. Also all very urban and built up suburban.

I wouldn't want to be in or near any of these anywhere else in the country. Imagine heavy rain or sleet or even fog. The sensors can't handle bad weather. What about wind whipping up fall leaves, perhaps when it's raining?

I doubt the economics of self driving cars is sustainable when limited to the southwest corner of the US. This technology has a huge way to go, and there are going to be a whole lot of very unhappy investors along the way.
