Shit on Apple all you want, but they are the only major consumer company going out of their way to protect user data.

Two different problem sets:

1) How to make human driven cars safer
2) How to make auto-piloted cars safer

Even if #2 is safer than #1, it does not absolve the company making the technology behind #2 much better and accountable to passenger safety. Similarly, airlines are still responsible for the safety of their passengers even if air travel is much safer than car travel.
