I know it might put you out of a job, but there's a much simpler solution: ban colored PET bottles. Then the recycling companies won't have to invest millions in complex AI machinery to sort different colors and subtypes of PET bottles. That lowers the cost of recycling PET and more of it will naturally be recycled.

Listen, I got tired of those flip-floppy scientists telling me that dark chocolate and red wine will both kill me and make me live longer. So I decided to quit both and take up smoking. At least nowI know exactly what the outcome will be.

The piece of knowledge that was hidden from you was that the plastics/petroleum industry lied and astroturfed to convince everyone that plastic bags were a greener option than paper or anything else. And that industry keeps coming up with more lies to protect their market.

The simplest "green" solution to the plastic and garbage problem broadly is to REDUCE. That's the first part of the "reduce, reuse, recycle" mantra that has been drilled into everyone's brain at this point. When you go to the store, if you can say "no thanks, I've got my own bag" then that's a few less small pieces of forever trash that will clog up the surface of the planet.

Yeah it would be great if counselors were able to do their jobs in caring for students who may have LGBT-related struggles. Especially in the all-too-common case where a child feels unsupported or even threatened by their home life situation. Turns out the Florida bill makes counselors’ jobs harder and will result in fewer kids getting help. In addition to the fear/FUD propagated by the risk of being sued by anti-LGBT zealots, counselors now are required by law to inform parents if their child is seeking help.

For what it’s worth, it’s apparently feasible to replace the HDD in an iPod Classic with an m2 SSD or a CF card. Along with installing a fresh battery, you could keep your iPod going for quite a while. Might eventually have to start using 3rd-party software for library management though because I’m sure at some point Apple’s software will lose that capability.

If there were consequences for shareholders, such as fines or penalties, then corporations deemed to be risky because of their fraudulent actions would have an exodus of investors. Pensions and mutual funds would be incentivized to conduct due diligence on business practices. In an ideal world my 401k money wouldn’t be going to prop up an industry that’s pushing opiates or burning the planet to the ground.

If your home price is halved, you’ll take home more income because your property tax bill will plummet equally. Also, it’s been pointed out elsewhere that Zillow was selectively overpaying for a smaller number of properties in an area while buying the rest at closer to market value. With the intent of juicing the value calculations for a neighborhood and artificially inflating the value of everything they just bought. In my view that beyond cancels out any benefit from increased liquidity. Not to mention it’s not like the housing market needs more liquidity. There’s a lot of people with savings who are trying to buy their first house but being pressured or scared away by the seller’s market. I’m one of them.
