Comment off the mark (Score 1) 948

this article is so off the mark, I worked 40+ hours at full time job and went to college at the same time, where would I find time to code an android app or such? today I spend all my coding time for my job - which I can't just take and show other employers. I dont have any content to put on a website. If I did have time to code apps I would be making money off them and not need to work for your company

Comment my interest (Score 2) 177

when I first got into computer science my interest was at its all time high, years later the lack of standards (especially web development), have annoyed me so much I really don't want to code at all or look at code outside of work. Why can't we code once for all browsers? why can't database queries be more standardized? Why couldn't ms / *nix use common EOF and other attributes since they have known about each other for decades now? why do I need a 68 in 1 card reader ( I suspect to get more money out of me than a 5-1 in card reader) Why does every electronic device needs its own adapter? I could go on and on as it seems everything invented has to have its own connectors and way of doing things. Seriously coding would be so easy with some real standards

Comment a small rant... (Score 2, Insightful) 242

how about uniform standards and less versions of sql, less browsers, less version of unix/linux, and maybe even standards in linux so that installations and menu additions and gui stuff was easier like windows. Yes linux folk open source 1000 different distros is not helping linux take over the desktop. And must windows really move stuff around each version just to confuse people and make them relearn again? But most of all why must applications be given so much freedom in terms of operating system. Can't the os keep more of these details in the kernel and limit the damage applications and viruses do to the pc. I don't think windows or linux are the future, I think someone has to create a new secure operating system that is easier to use than windows or linux and maybe doesn't let developers and users run free like the wild west. As much as I like all the insane things I can do with C++ memory/pointers , and changing the os and windows start text to anything I like there is no need for this to be open to users. The os needs to be more like a vault with bank security guards controlling it. And do we really need so many programming language, Sun wouldn't give MS java freedom so they create C#; etc. ruby , perl, smalltalk, etc.. is this really helping? And last why is javascript allowed to do stuff like control my back button , etc.. it has been years and no one can deprecate this dangerous behavior??

Comment I do it all the time (Score 0) 1019

I listen to music all the time, if your developers are that bad at programming that music will slow their productivity then you should get new developers. Also what about time it takes the server to load, time wasted due to anti-virus scanning every file you are using - which when your a developer is HUGE. And all that time wasted in meetings which turn out to be irrelevant. Sounds like you have a boss that is ignorant and just doesn't get it. But thanks now I have a new question to ask potential employers, if they don't allow music I will walk, what is this prison - a job is a two way contact not a one way relationship.

Comment how to fight back (Score 0) 344

Taxing students, bailouts for banks, there is only one way for citizens to fight back, stop spending money and start saving it. However most citizens are as greedy as the government and can not stop spending their money. I myself have cut my spending almost 90%, from now on its only buying what I need and nothing else. I am not going to fuel the cycle.

Comment burden? (Score 0) 344

burden? what burden? these students spend money locally and give enough money to the city already. Just what burden are they doing, buying coffee and office supplies? 'Those darn students and all their learning, what a burden. They should have just dropped out and been a benefit to society'. I can't believe how many dumb taxes that have no merit keep coming up. Lets call this what it really is GREED GREED GREED
