Whatever situation we Americans find ourselves in where we need to adapt from one to another, a mnemonic will form. Human brains are cool.
Examples of ones I've developed:
500ml = 16.9 oz because those are the measures printed on the plastic soda bottles that come in 6 packs
100 km = 62 miles because of that one sign I pass driving into Canada
30 cm = 12 inches because that's the length of the ruler

If I ever find a need to regularly compare pounds/ounces with grams an appropriate mnemonic will arise from the situation and it would gets added to the list.

Facial recognition has been obliterated by mass adoption of face masks, to the point where heartbeat recognition systems using lasers are being investigated to replace them. I don't understand why the government is going to waste money on what is essentially an obsolete security measure when they have this.

City run by democrats for at least 30 years. I donâ(TM)t know or care why there arenâ(TM)t enough cabs (whether it is government or taxi companies limiting them), but the situation was horrible. Forget about not being able to handle unusual demand peaks like concerts. Even the every day peaks of plane arrivals at the airport and train arrivals at the station had people waiting 30-60 minutes to cram into cabs with 4 strangers. Then wondering if one of these strangers is going to grab your luggage when they get to the destination before you. Uber/lyft basically gave us a way to tell the worthless taxi companies to pound sand, and if they all fail into oblivion it will be a glorious day

Good analogy. The only counterargument I can add is, the government didn't need to ban horses or subsidize gas station installation to help the automobile spread, it all just kindof happened.

If in 2030 every single parking area (lodging, shopping, rest stops) has charging stations but there's only 1-2 gas stations in town, and the number of auto shops dealing with ICE has dropped due to fewer customers, they won't need to ban them.

The joke "what do you call someone who only knows one language" "an American" should be a point of shame. We have several states bordering a Spanish speaking country, two bordering a French speaking province, but most importantly within the US itself is an entire territory with 3M+ Spanish speakers. I've half-assedly "learned" both in US schools and can at least read signs and follow simple directions given in both languages. "Learn to code" is not even remotely an appropriate substitution.

How about a coverup of using shoddy construction materials [NY, Cuomo Bridge]?

Lost their power grid in a cold snap. Can't remember the last time my area of NY NY lost more than 10 minutes...

Do you not recall the entire Northeast power grid failure of 2004? Texas's isolation may have sucked for Texas, but it was probably good for its neighbors.

Infrastructure isn't where the differences lie between high and low tax states. Low tax states also happen to have lower regulations, making it cheaper to build infrastructure and operate public services. Florida was able to build higher speed rail (Brightline) and while it's not as fast as CAHSR is supposed to be, it exists and is transporting customers, a marked improvement over not existing. Colorado (a state that is also low tax) just built out Denver's fully electrified RTD commuter rail network for less than the cost of building a single NY subway station.

As for Florida man, compared to human feces everywhere in cities like SF (NYC seems to be developing a similar problem this past year), and random rioting, I'll take Florida man stories. Miami is a pleasant, clean city. It has a Metro and bus system, and a free automated people mover. Compare the neighborhoods of Miami Beach and the Rockaways.

Travel the country (or for that matter, the world). As an NYer myself, I think we are getting ripped off, having the 49th highest taxes in the country. Can you say with a straight face that NY's infrastructure is better than everywhere but CT? Where is all this money going?

The semantic overload of the phrase was masterful. They took a statement that no reasonable person could possibly disagree with, built an organization around it, and intentionally conflate criticism of the organization into criticism of the phrase. The only people who can argue through the emotional manipulations are people like Terry Crews who can speak from a position of authority on the matter, and right wingers who have built up an immunity to such arguments (but as a result come across as assholes when they do it).
