Submission + - Put Linux on an Indy 500 car!

Mark K writes: How would you like to tune into the Indy 500 and see the Linux penguin prominently displayed on a car. The Tux 500 project was started to raise enough money to sponsor an Indy 500 car this year in the name of Linux. If $25,000 is raised they will be an associate sponsor of the car, if they reach $350,000 then the whole car will have Linux all over it. The amount of visibility depends on the money raised. Overnight they passed $6000 and there is some good rivalry between the different distributions on the stats page. There is also a contest to determine a design for the car.

Submission + - 16:9 commercials on 4:3 screens?

suso writes: "Tell me I'm not imagining things. I just saw that Mastercard commercial where the couple's parents are meeting each other. But this time the "priceless text" was going off the edge of the screen and only partially viewable. I still have a 4:3 aspect ratio screen and this was on a local CW station. So was this an 16:9 HD advertisement? The show that was on was not advertised as being in HD and none of the other commercials seemed to be having the same issues. I'm wondering if this is going to be how the stations encourage people to buy new TVs with HD support. I was going to buy a new TV at the end of this year (don't use it enough) anyways. I'm reminded of that old episode of "The Wonder Years" where the family is being encouraged to buy a new color TV and Wayne is making comments like "Look at that nice brown car.""
