NetworkWorld says that the management software comes from BMC, which should mean their recent BladeLogic acquisition if Cisco has any sense. Sorry, no URL as I'm writing this post on my iTouch.

The NW article says that this could be the beginning of a management software partnership, or perhaps an acquisition, which could be interesting.

You also have to remember that the product is not worth the same amount to different people. One user might be very happy to shell out a million bucks and still consider it a bargain, while another will stretch to justify a hundred grand - for the exact same tool. I have seen this happen first hand.

What happens then is that there will be a list price somewhere in between what the two users would be willing to pay. The first customer has a second item tacked on to the quote to make up some of the difference between what the tool is worth to them and its list price, while the second customer gets a substantial discount on the list price. This is possible because the cost of a single copy of the software is next to nothing, once the development has been paid for.

Instead, they expect users to simply accept a little lock GIF file they put up themselves, and their assurance that the form is submitted via SSL. According to Citibank, "Your security is important to us. While the new Citicards.com has an "http" address and no lock icon displays in your browser, your personal information is still protected." Citibank's security page While other sites are moving to more security and more ways for the user to protect himself (e.g., Bank of America's SiteKey program), Citibank is tearing away at protections and trying to train users not to care about security.
