Submission + - Cool (mostly Python) technologies nobody knows (aclark.net)

aclark4life writes: I updated my company's website after about 1 month of part, part, part time development (i.e. probably in about 24 hours of actual work). It's pretty fugly, but there are some cool technologies at play that the Slashdot community may enjoy. And I would enjoy (even potentially negative) feedback. The blog entry is tutorial-esque with a link to the "code" on GitHub.

Submission + - Comcast-NBC merger approved by FCC 1

AndyAndyAndyAndy writes: "It seems that the FCC has approved the proposed merger between Comcast and NBC, effectively kicking apart hopes for protection against "pipes and their water" frameworks. Pres. Obama's 2008 goal also goes ignored: "I strongly favor diversity of ownership of outlets and protection against the excessive concentration of power in the hands of any one corporation, interest or small group." The Dept. of Justice is also onboard, leaving little hope that this will be stopped."

Submission + - WC3 Unveils HTML5 Logo (digitizor.com)

dkd903 writes: The WC3 has revealed the HTML5 logo today. I must say it looks pretty darn impressive. This is what they wrote about the logo: It stands strong and true, resilient and universal as the markup you write. It shines as bright and as bold as the forward-thinking, dedicated web developers you are.

Equipping a Small Hackerspace? 174

andy writes "After gentle prodding for about a year, my company actually agreed to include an electronics/robotics lab in the current build-out of our new office space. As I never really expected this to happen, I was at a bit of a loss when they asked me what sort of workbenches, equipment, etc. I wanted for the lab. The lab will only be approximately 9'x15' but there is a decent amount of vertical space to work with. I was thinking of having 2 workbenches side-by-side, one for 'hardware' and the other for 'software' with a floor-standing cabinet for storage. Semi-mobile workbenches might be a plus. Those of you that work in these sorts of environments, what do you recommend in the way of workbenches, storage, organization, and electronics?"
