I have a lazy eye as well and when we saw Coraline, I spent about 50% of the movie watching without the glasses. It seemed to alleviate the headache and the 3D wasn't too bad without the glasses. The old red/blue movies I could see with the glasses on and I was fine.

I use dansguardian on Hardy Heron for filtering my daughter's access. I like the fact that I can adjust just what gets blocked as she gets older.

However, I do believe the best filter is the one where parents practice that ago old filter of "No, you can't do that".

The big issue is once you get above local government; i.e. city, county, etc; the rules are stacked against a candidate that doesn't have a D or an R next to their name. Mostly it has to do with who gets matching campaign funds from the Federal Election Commission and the state versions of it. It's damn near impossible for a 3rd party candidate to get funds to run at a state level. In fact, the only time I can remember it happening was when Jesse Ventura was the governor from Wisconsin.

Researchers Warn of Possible BitTorrent Meltdown 294

secmartin writes "Researchers at Delft University warn that large parts of the BitTorrent network might collapse if The Pirate Bay is forced to shut down. A large part of the available torrents use The Pirate Bay as tracker, and other available trackers will probably be overloaded if all traffic is shifted there. TPB is currently using eight servers for their trackers. According to the researchers, even trackerless torrents using the DHT protocol will face problems: 'One bug in a DHT sorting routine ensures that it can only "stumble upon success", meaning torrent downloads will not start in seconds or minutes if Pirate Bay goes down in flames.'"

Iron Man's New Villain — an Open Source Terrorist 361

An anonymous reader writes "In a recent interview on Comic Book Resources about his new continuation of the Marvel comic-book series 'Invincible Iron Man,' Matt Faction provides information about the the new series (debut will be May 7). The villain is Ezekiel Stane, son of Obadiah Stane (the villain of the new Iron Man movie opening on May 2). Whereas Obadiah was a ruthless billionaire who fought as the Iron Monger, Zeke 'rejects the strategies of his father as being the crude tactics of Attila the Hun.' Instead, he will be 'a post-national business man and kind of an open source ideological terrorist.' As the author puts it, 'Windows wants to be on every computer desktop in the world, but Linux and Stane want to destroy the desktop.' The concept has gone over well on the CBR forums."
