Comment Re:As much as I like Jared, I differ here (Score -1, Troll) 303

does anybody have any real proof that Google has manipulated results or forced other products to be tied to their search engine?

Well, the situation with the iOS mapping is somewhere between shady and "being evil".

With 0.3-0.6% of GDP directly attributed to Apple and its basically unlimited funds for lobbying (bribing) politicians,

Except Apple spends 1/10th as much as Google does on lobbying and doesn't have a Political action committee to funnel money to politicians like how Google does.

your lovely (US) government cannot afford letting them lose their current market cap - it would harm whole market and trigger an avalanche of failing pension funds (lots of them also heavily invested into Apple itself) which in turn would bite government crooks in their lazy asses.

Because that really stopped antitrust cases against Microsoft in the 90's.

But CD, DAT, and the stereo PCM option for DVD-Video all use uncompressed audio.

Yeah, but most music is mixed in at least 24bit/96kHz these days. CDs have to dither to 16/44.1 which either requires truncation or psychoacoustic noise shaped dithering.

Comment Are kill switches the most effective method? (Score 1) 152

A kill switch lets people know that it has been flipped. Things stop functioning entirely, and the net "routes around it".

Why not instead use a "congestion switch" to slow down traffic to a point where government created misinformation can be spread in real time to achieve whatever goals the government wants?

IDK, they did give me a near top of the line Mac Pro when my liquid cooled G5 sprung a leak several years outside the warranty period.

And they also gave me a new laptop for 75% off several years back just because my previous one had required several repairs, which were all at their expense.

I hear conspiracy theories like this but I've never seen any evidence of it happening. Reason is that the cops would get in trouble.

Uh, no. I was born and raised in a small town in central Kentucky. My mother was the city attorney. One police officer failed to get an oil change or routine maintenance on his cruiser for 20,000 miles (they are allowed to take their cruisers home, but get free maintenance at the city garage). The engine on his cruiser then failed and had to be replaced. As a result, my mom set in motion the proceedings to have the officer fired. The city was unable to fire him, and from there on out he would, whenever he saw me driving around town, follow me and pull me over for minor offenses such as speeding less than 5 mph over the posted limits. Eventually, his wife got a job in another city and they moved.

The fact of the matter is that it is VERY difficult to have police fired. It used to be commonplace for mayors to come in and fire most of the police department and repopulate it with his cronies, now there are all sorts of laws protecting police officers.
