Comment Wayland is not ready... (Score 4, Insightful) 75

I'm sorry, but Wayland is not ready for the masses yet. It still lacks features that X11 has had for years, and has bugs that prevent me from using it. I don't know why it's taking so long to get things right. It's been over 15 years, and, IMHO, it's not even Beta qality yet. It's almost like the developers are working on it a couple of hours a week.

Comment Re:So if it's built into a TV??? (Score 1) 147

You don't have to agree to any license to use a Roku TV as a TV.

As long as you keep it from connecting to the internet. The moment a Roku TV connects and updates, the HDMI inputs are locked out, and you are forced to sign up for a Roku account, give an email address, agree to terms, etc. It was possible to skip the "add payment method" though, or least it was this time last year.

Damn!

Since Roku didn't PURCHASE the TV, I'm pretty damned sure they can't Legally Lock Out Inputs that they have NOTHING to do with!

Time for a Class Action. Screw Arbitration!

I think the fact that arbitration is binding and unappealable is just bull shit, especially since the corporation gets to choose the arbitrator. We should start a Class Action to get our full purchase price, plus an additional $100 to $200 for inconvenience. I was just looking at purchasing a new TV and was planning non it being powered by Roku. Guess I'll look for one not running Roku now.

After reading the comments for the trailer [youtube.com], all I can think is those people are being paid. 85% are saying Sandler is underrated in dramatic roles or how he shines in dramatic roles. Same words, different arrangement.

Those would be "AI" comments. Cost probably a few cents per 1000, or 10,000.

That's the "response". What allowed it to exist in the first place. Don't those things need government permits or something?

Oh wait, those are only require for LEGITIMATE businesses. Illegal Chinese Bio Labs need not apply, just don't get caught or they'll shut you down (to respawn elsewhere)

You answered your own question. Criminals doing crime and opening an illegitimate business is what allowed it to exist in the first place. Are you trying to say that the Biden administration, or any administration for that matter, should somehow be able to put a stop to crime BEFORE it even happens, or somehow magically know that an illegitimate business has started up without being notified and investigating?

Comment Re:Just FYI (Score 2) 24

Well, those three articles show that the Biden administration did not do "absolutely nothing but cover it up when the secret bio-lab was found in Central California", like the OP claimed. It was, in fact, investigated and shut down. But I guess since it wasn't drone struck within minutes of it's discovery, the MAGA crowd decided to start the conspiracy theories flowing and try to discredit Biden.

Comment Re:Job Openings at IBM (Score -1) 182

IBM wants to force employees back to the office. Why?

Because IBM, as well as most large corporations, are paying millions for empty office space. They either own these building, and can't sell them, or their contracts are long-term, and they can't get out of them. Of course, they'll still be paying the same rent/mortgage, but it's easier to justify to shareholders when the office is in use.

If your art is viewable by the public in any way, you have no standing here. I feel the same with the authors complaining about LLM using their writings to train as well. If your work is in a public library, then you have no standing because anyone can use it to learn, even remotely these days. If you don't want anyone or anything to use your work to learn, then keep it behind a paywall or completely out of public view.
