One of the most common and widely-sold USB devices were speakers. You could waste your limited USB 1.1 bandwidth by plugging in a speaker instead of just using the audio-out jack of your sound card. Almost every device would claim it wouldn't work right if you used a hub, so unless you were lucky and had ones that did, you used up the two (or four, lucky you!) ports of your system quickly. Windows had support from vendors but Linux was hit-or-miss. Things may have turned out well enough, but it was a far rockier start than the idealistic image portrayed here.

If itâ(TM)s my doctor calling, theyâ(TM)re either speaking directly to me from the start, or leaving me a message to call them. HIPAA isnâ(TM)t going to let them âoecommunicateâ with some kind of wacky software assistant.
