Submission + - Frog photobombs NASA rocket launch (cnn.com)

mvar writes: A frog photobombed the launch of NASA's LADEE (Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer) on Sept.6. NASA confirmed that this is not a photoshop frame and that the frog was probably located in the nearby pool used for the high-volume water deluge system that activates during launches to protect the pad from damage and for noise suppression.

a new website for citizens to learn about transparency in intelligence agencies

A website is the absolute best way to give the illusion to your "citizens" that they're in control of something..like with that "We the people" site. Oh yes, people seem to like websites...let them click on "like" or "dislike" buttongs all day long from the comfort of their living rooms and feel they actually participate in the government and you have some happy voters

Apple seems to recognize everything that seemed to elude Microsoft's corporate thinking six years ago: namely, that even the most successful companies need to keep breaking into new categories, and keep innovating

So how is MS not doing this? Surface, win8, win RT, XBone..sure they "failed" (I doubt if this will be the case for the xbone though) but one can't say they didn't try to "break into new categories" or "innovate". The big difference is that apple has countless fanbois so they're less likely to go down so early :P

On the subject of surveillance and Google Glass, the British tv-series Black Mirror had a pretty neat episode (s01e03) titled "The Entire History of You", here's a brief description from wikipedia: Set in an alternative reality where most people have a 'grain' implanted behind their ear which records everything they do, see or hear. This allows memories to be played back either in front of the person's eyes or on a screen, a process known as a 're-do'. Very interesting concept

Have you? There's lack of regulation in Greece. Multinationals and companies do whatever they like, for example you may find a piece of furniture in IKEA for 100e while the same piece in France costs 40e and the average salary is 30-40% more. Same goes for food, electronics and other stuff. Despite the crisis everything remains insanely expensive in greece and the government is too corrupt and disfunctional to do anything about it

Submission + - Hacker Releases 1.7TB Treasure Trove

mvar writes: According to kotaku, a hacker named SuperDaeE who breached multiple gaming companies (Valve, Sony, MS to name a few) has released a 1.7TB treasure trove file for download. The file which contains source code for older titles plus development kits for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles, is encrypted and SuperDaeE claims that it is his insurance in case gets arrested. Good luck with that.

First of all you should ask if ISDN and T1 are "going the way of the dodo", not copper. DSL runs over copper too so copper is and will be relevant in the foreseeable future. Although it certainly depends on where you live, most businesses that migrate from ISDN/T1/E1 services go to DSL or FO. With DSL you have adsl, vdsl, shdsl, vdsl bonding, anything that can do EFM anyway, so copper isn't going anywhere anytime soon. For some end users that are too far for DSL, there are 3G routers and other wireless solutions. ISDN will eventually die but again that's what they say for FAX for so many years, so nobody knows for sure. And really, your dad should know better, the industry he is in changes rapidly and only those who can adapt to these changes survive.
