Submission + - The Real-World State of Windows Use (infoworld.com)

snydeq writes: "Performance and metrics researcher Devil Mountain Software has released an array of real-world Windows use data as compiled by its exo.performance.network, a community-based monitoring tool that receives real-time data from about 10,000 PCs throughout the world. Tracking users specific configurations, as well as the applications they actually use, the tool provides insights into real-world Windows use, including browser share, multicore adoption, service pack adoption, and which anti-virus, productivity, and media software users are most prevalent among Windows users. Of note is the fact that, two years after Vista's release, not even 30 percent of PCs actually run it, that OpenOffice.org is making inroads into the Microsoft Office user base, and that, despite the rise of Firefox, Internet Explorer remains the standard option for inside-the-firewall apps."

Don't worry, organized (?) societies at other parts of the world are inconsistent as well.

I reckon the real issue is not depicting sex in itself, but rather depicting it as an entertaining and carefree activity. I doubt it that the whole Hot Coffee debacle would even exist if the Easter egg depicted instead the protagonist involved in worriedly procuring a condom, doing it under the sheets as to not expose himself and his partner (in a closed room), having erection and ejaculation problems and so forth.

It's not that you can't have sexual content; what you can't have is guilt free sexual content. Oh, no, mister.

I was wondering something similar. When does it come the time in which people will start getting killed for stating stuff like that?

Not that I am against free speech in itself, that's not it at all, I'm all for it. However, I'm also for free reaction.

I mean, if some random guy comes to me and says, "I'm gonna screw you," like he means it. I would like to reserve the right to punch him in the face at the very least.

For the "simulationist" kind of RP-ers, having some motivation for their characters to be is an essential aspect to create a character in the first place. Also, those are the guys who will initially populate and adhere to a server/game. Once the server has a decent enough population, the "recreationists" (those who just want some nifty platform to grind over) will follow. Hackers will eventually appear once the game is successful enough to be (over)crowded by the former two. If a game can't appeal, at least for starters, the simulationists, it will hardly survive long enough for the ecosystem to establish itself. On a side note: Was there even a Matrix MMORPG?
