I can't think of a single thing that I like about the site redesign. Content is further way in every sense of the word, and the wasted space/content ratio is through the roof. Summaries are gone, so I can't readily see if an article at least has a chance of being valuable until I've clicked through to it.

BarbaraHudson writes: After also deleting the Norweigian Prime Minister's post which was made in protest of Facebook censoring the phote, CBC reports that Facebook has reversed its' position.

Facebook on Friday reversed its decision to remove postings of an iconic 1972 image of a naked, screaming girl running from a napalm attack in Vietnam, after a Norwegian revolt against the tech giant.

Protests in Norway started last month after Facebook deleted the Pulitzer Prize-winning image by Associated Press photographer Nick Ut from a Norwegian author's page, saying it violated its rules on nudity.

The revolt escalated on Friday when Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg posted the image on her profile and Facebook deleted that too.

Adrian Courrèges presents on his blog a breakdown of the rendering process of a frame of DOOM.
The game is one of the first to make use of the Vulkan API and implements several state-of-the-art rendering techniques to achieve a staggering amount of calculation in less than 16ms.

guises writes: By making a giant Petri dish out of bands of increasingly antibiotic-laced agar, a couple of microbiologists have created a means to watch bacterial evolution as it happens: colonies introduced to the dish expand to fill the areas in which they can survive and then mutate and spread into the areas in which they couldn't. It takes only eleven days for the bacteria to evolve sufficient resistance to survive in an area with a thousand times the concentration of antibiotic that would have killed the original colonies. And it makes a pretty neat video.

The overall spending level is $19 billion, an almost $300 million cut from the current fiscal year. Much of the money comes out of the development for the Orion deep space vehicle and the heavy lift Space Launch System, the very basis of the space agency’s plans for exploring deep space beyond low Earth orbit.

You don't often see as many superlatives modifying 'mediocre' as I've seen in reviews of this movie.

"Powerfully mediocre" "Terrifically mediocre" "Decidedly mediocre" "Aggressively mediocre" "Stunningly mediocre".

I went and saw it anyway.

I deserve this ache in my wallet.

Uninstalled from my phone, changed my rating from 5 stars to 2 and dropped them a note on their web site inviting them to contact me if they revise their TOS to respect my privacy again.

I didn't live and die by Gas Buddy, but I did find it useful. Just not useful enough to bare my soul quite as far as they are now requiring.

Some cash registers need to be on the internet. It's how they process electronic payments. Modern eftpos terminals don't use dial-up connections anymore.

I gave the counter guy at my mechanic a strange look the other day when he processed my payment via credit card and I heard the modem dial out. He rolled his eyes and said, "Yeah, they 'upgraded' us last week. More secure because it doesn't have to go over the Internet."
