Comment This is absolute insanity (Score 1) 203

It's like a big bully outside the lunchroom and these companies are the bullied nerds. These companies clearly feel it's just cheaper to pay the bully (MS) their lunch money than to honestly fight it. If only the law makers realized what a disaster software patents would become, and how it doesn't protect innovation and becomes a huge expense to companies and individuals, I'm sure they would have did it differently.

Comment Too bad (Score 1) 870

Too damn bad for the US government. If they were truly acting in a respectable and honest manner, this "leak" wouldn't be such a big deal. If you act in such a way that you have to keep secrets - even from your own citizens which you are representing then, and these "leaks" will ruin relationships with fellow countries, that that to me says that this is a government not worth supporting or being in power.

Comment AMD is great (Score 1) 362

I've been using AMD for about 4 years now, and recently purchased a new desktop, and decided that AMD is just was the way to go. Intel products (are great) but expensive, and as the frugal type of guy I am, I just can't justify the extra cost for Intel products.

You'll have to call 411. But honestly how often does the power go out, and at the same time you have to call some unknown number? I know that I haven't experienced a power outage in many years. And what about cell phones, perhaps those will still be working during the power outage and you can look up the number online on it.

Comment End of privacy? (Score 1) 234

I'd like to know how these ISP's are going to know exactly what data being transfered is infringing copyright, without serious invasion of privacy? For any other communication such as putting a wiretap on someones phone, it's up to the police to get warrants to do this info gathering.

Even if someone is suspected of copyright infringement, does it make it ok for some private company to invade your privacy without first getting authorization from a judge? Don't even argue that it's the ISP's system so they have a right to look into your data transfers, otherwise it would set a precedent that will allow the post office to open all your mail, couriers such as FedEx and UPS to open and inspect your packages, and the phone companies to listen in on all your calls.

It's as if the internet has gone from the "wild west" to a soon to be "police state"

Comment Why bother even having a website then? (Score 1) 454

Suddenly those papers' websites aren't going to get much traffic, advertisers are either going to leave or demand cheaper rates. This is a bonus to other news sites that still have free content, with more traffic they could potentially earn more money from advertisers.

For a guy who is obviously smart, he sure has no idea to cope with the Internet. I suppose you can't teach an old dog new tricks. He's living proof.
