Comment Why do we put bikes on the road anyways? (Score 1) 1651

At risk of sounding like an ignorant American, Why do we force bikes onto the road in many areas? I went to school in Wisconsin, and students were occasionally ticketed for biking (or skateboarding or rollerblading) on the sidewalk, rather than the road. It seems to me that the sidewalk is a more appropriate place (bike vs pedestrian = stitches, bike vs car = death or brain damage) Of course sidewalks aren't available everywhere, but where they are, why are bikes forced off the sidewalks?

My biggest fear about this model is that I will be limited in the gameplay elements I have available. For instance, when the game comes out, I was really hoping to pay a flat fee so that all heroes/items are available. I don't care about hats and skins, those should cost exorbitant money to the player so valve can keep up their profitable business model. If it's based on how "nice" a player is(however that's determined), I'll still have to play a few games before I can unlock items at a reasonable price. And I'll have to make sure I play support classes, help people out, buy wards, give compliments, and upvote other friendly people to increase my ranking (I'm guessing criteria here) This being said, I've played the beta extensively. I am a friendly player, and I do help noobs. I did the same in TF2...so I'm sure this model will benefit me more than others, I just don't want to have limited content (or pay super high prices) when the game comes out.

Their "Test servers" might be the key word. If they're diagnosing a problem, perhaps their bandwidth-limited test servers are to blame, and connecting to their live servers would automatically be faster? Speculation, don't eat me if I'm wrong. 300ms is unacceptable for a high-speed connection. Yes it works for email, but that's not what you're paying for.

500,000 downloads, but Rovio says it has shipped more than 10 million Angry Birds toys worldwide. I'm assuming it's 500,000,000. .6 minutes per download seems reasonable to me. As soon as you install on your ipod, iphone, and on every instance of chrome. And then you realize that the game sucks so you only play 5 minutes of it.
