figuring that any publicity to take the collective internet's minds off of the gay book fiasco (as I have decided to term it) is good publicity. They've probably been sitting on this one for 6 months and just not telling anybody. I still will think more than twice before ordering something from them again.

Comment Faulty Anniversary Inductive Logic (FAIL) (Score 1) 261

By this "logic" it doesn't make sense to celebrate birthdays or wedding anniversaries either, as most babies, are more or less the same in the days and weeks before they are born. By the same token, many couples are engaged well before they are married, and begin to live a life very similar to what married life will be like for them. Humans LOVE to celebrate anniversaries (except for Jehovah's Witnesses, I've never really understood that), and we need SOME sort of reference point. version 1.0 or whatever whole integer people use seems to be that for software. Except Google, they don't care and will always keep things in beta.

I'm a big fan of OpenDNS. It makes my browsing faster than dealing with my ISP's overloaded DNS servers, and allows me full control over my network. For safety reasons, so far I have blocked NBA.com, and I occasionally block perezhilton.com, just to piss my girlfriend off.

As far as "filters" for kids - I grew up with a liberal(ish) mother who taught Sexual Education courses for a while. I was exposed to all of her programs, from "abstinence only" to "safer sex" and everything in between, and to be honest, what I learned from that level of exposure is that the BEST defense is a good offense. Teach your kid the values of sexuality you feel are healthiest and know that no matter how much you try to keep them protected from exposure to "bad" things, they are going to find those things on their own, one way or another. Giving kids the proper tools and knowledge on how to deal with the "bad things" is far better than trying to protect them with any sort of shell.

Actually, as a 23 year old male, that's exactly what I want when I watch tv. Which of course is never. I haven't the time, and the internet exists now, so I can just youtube the good parts. or something like that.

I almost used one of my hard-earned mod points to mod this post as funny. Then I realized you might actually be serious. And I became really truly afraid.

I believe that the point of this post is that the Aussie courts are finally getting with it a little bit in the tech world, but simply sending a FB message counting towards being "served" doesn't really make sense to me - especially if the server had already made an attempt by e-mail (which you can at least request a read-receipt). Facebook then lives up to my expectations of them by issuing a cryptic release suggesting that they are both secure, yet not secure. Really, all this did was make my head hurt, and begin to scheme about "serving" people via the Nigerian court system, that they owe me USD $5 Million...
