I prefer reddit's mod system by a mile. Moderation usually seems to boil down to an agree/disagree button, but on slashdot it hides things too well. I'll take Reddit where it just sorts it a bit, it's disheartening to see one's comments disappear, especially as an occasional poster.

I think this is getting better, with covid and after, every kid is our school district got a chromebook (checked out, but theirs for the year) Our kids have a mouse if they feel like plugging it in at school. I have not seen any of the 'lets get every kid an ipad' crap for a while now.

I gave up on reading yelp reviews long ago, and thought I had figured out the system. I went to restaurants and looked only at the food pictures to decide if I wanted to go there or not.

Recently the yelp food pictures have become slim pickings indeed. 90% of the user photos are gone, replaced by a handful of professional close ups of individual dishes, sometimes many shots, even pages, of the same dish, perfectly framed and obviously staged. RIP workaround.

Exactly that, which is what S. Korea has been doing for years. No reason to disallow anything, but get an equivalent (or bake into) the 'sign in with google' login method, where your Social Security Number (or the equivalent for other countries) is tied to your account. Then as the wave of crap looms higher sites can choose to disallow other types of accounts if they wish.
