There is no such thing as warp. We will never travel faster than the speed of light.

A material that allows evergy to only pass one way seems like it would defy some sort of law of physics.

still not strong enough for the space elevator tether... so meh

going from XP to Win7 will be a nightmare and we all know it. It might just be easier to switch to linux desktops.

Srsly, science. Just give up. Focus on things Charlie says is possible, like computerized contact lenses. Or alien cloning.

What we're headed for is a smartphone like device hooked up to a pair of eyeglasses via bluetooth (or whatever) that have a heads up display in them. Eventually the phone will go away and be part of the glasses... then eventually the glasses will go away and be replaced by contacts. It's only a matter of time.

I want future aliens to come, find our database and raise me from the dead... so I'm all for this.

Let's not overreact because god forbid a television network decides to show a shred of sensitivity of their own accord. Do you think anyone is telling The Daily Show not to make jokes about Japan? No. They are choosing not to. Right now some people might not find it amusing. This isn't censorship. It's called decency. If your point is that the show was written ten years ago, then calm down, it will be funny again later.

That's EXACTLY what Stephen King did with "The Dark Tower." Humiliated every beloved character, one by one, set it in a world that bore ZERO resemblance to Mid-World, stuck his own dumb ass in it and wrote a note saying "Sorry it sucks, that's what you get for hassling me about it. Don't call. Love, Steve."

It's completely possible. It is in no way hard to check where your things are made. It is utterly and totally up to you. (You can also buy things used which do not directly fund the manufacturers.) When you run in to something you actually can't live without, you'll feel better about the alternatives you usually choose. Stop acting like such a victim and take some responsibility for what your money does.

This is fantastic. I had Comcast from 2005-2007 and during the last few months my connection went to shit. Basic diagnostics proved I was being throttled and when I asked my local branch they swore hell no. They were real nice, they came and checked my wires, but I knew. It was fine until I started up a torrent. I had practically no service the last three weeks I lived in that area and when I got my last bill I sent it back to them with a nice note explaining that I hadn't received any service and had no intentions of paying for it. They keep sending me a bill for $80. I keep printing the same note. Now I'm gonna get my $16 and what the hell, I'll pay them the other $64. Just as long as somewhere a judge told them that was wrong and I don't gotta pay for all of it.
