I have used them for years as a network solutions provider.

absolutely amazing! while windows XP was and is usable, Vista was a disaster on launch, and 7 an immediate favorite, their mobile platforms have always struggled. mobile 5 was utilitarian like XP and 6 was a failure on par with Vista is 7 as good as 7? While apple struggles to prevent us from running the aps we want on devices we OWN! windows is working with the hacker to provide the content people want and solve the security flaws that allow the unlocking. can we say brilliant on the part of MS (formerly the evil overlord)

Comment I don't think it will ever happen (Score -1, Offtopic) 606

there is no need is is a stupid Idea. the level of skill needed to fly around will never be as obtainable as a driving license. Besides we need to start looking locally to ensure the survivability of our species. think about it the majority of our food products travel between 200 and 2000 miles to reach our table. we need to stop growing mass produced genetically engineered corn that can't be digested and start growing the foods we can actually consume. Most field corn has to be digested by machines and processed in to food additives in order to consume it. mass agriculture also requires large amounts of petroleum based fertilizers killing the earths ability to naturally support the growth of real crops. Mark my works mass corporate farming is going to lead the starvation and economic disaster with in 15 years if we don't start fixing it now.

My daughter(13) wanted a iPod touch for her Birthday a few days ago and we got it for her. I was playing with it (after she went to bed) and LOVE IT!. the only thing I found it lacking was a camera, but the mac rumor mill says that the gen 4 coming out in Sept. will have the new features of the iPhone 4. I am planning to wait till then and get one for the wife and one for myself. My Question to the SlashDot community is this:
What are the best productivity apps for the iphone/ipod touch?"

Submission + - Microsoft, Intel Get Pass on Higher H-1B Fees

theodp writes: Criticizing companies that outsource high-paying American jobs, Senator Charles Schumer described Indian IT company Infosys as a 'chop shop'. The comments came as the Senate scrambled to fund the $600MM Mexican Border Security Bill by hiking application fees for H-1B and L-1 visas. The Senate measure increases H-1B visa fees by $2,000 per application on firms that have 50% or more of their employees on this visa. Schumer pointed out the bill would not affect high-tech companies such as Intel or Microsoft, although they are among the biggest beneficiaries of the H-1B program.

Submission + - Flash ported to iOS and iPhone 4 (geek.com)

An anonymous reader writes: You may remeber in early July Flash was ported to iPad under the name of Frash. Well, now that same port has been updated to allow it to run on iPhone 4 and iOS. But that’s not all, the same port will run on iPhone 3GS, iPad, and iPod touch.

Submission + - Is AOL finally crashing and burning? (marketwatch.com)

An anonymous reader writes: AOL's disastrous quarterly report showed cash from continuing operations was down 44% from a year ago (while "adjusted operating income" was down 37%), as it continues a rocky transition from monthly subscription fees into advertising. (Their quarterly report also notes "the cessation of large-scale access subscriber acquisition campaigns" — investor-speak for the fact that AOL will finally stop mass mailings of free trial accounts.) Unfortunately, AOL's advertising business "did even worse. Its revenues declined by $110 million...every single segment is down." AOL has already lost 86% of the 30 million subscribers it reported in 2001 — down to just 4.3 million — but advertising hasn't yet filled the gap (possibly because many AOL ads had been displayed to the users AOL no longer has). But at least, as one technology blogger notes, AOL has finally released a mobile application, "In the new definition of 'late to the party'."

Jaymi writes: Called the NexusOne PhoneSat project — a group comprised of NASA Ames students, Google employees and two NASA contractors — they are determining if low-cost mobile phone components withstand space travel. The parts must reach orbit without shaking apart, function within a vacuum and operate at extremely high and low temperatures. So they shot two Nexus One phones 28,000 feet up and recorded 2.5 hours of video doing so.

Submission + - eFuse response from Motorola

radicalpi writes: Motorola has responded to claims that eFuse is designed to brick your device if you attempt to mod it or install unauthorized bootloaders. Here is the full story on Endgaget. Yes, the device will still not operate with unauthorized software, but it will only go into recovery mode until you reinstall the authorized software. According to Motorola: "If a device attempts to boot with unapproved software, it will go into recovery mode, and can re-boot once approved software is re-installed."

Engadget is hopeful that developers out there will be able to circumvent this for custom software and glad that the rumors that Motorola is out to destroy your property have been dispelled.

I even go so far as to remove the OS license sticker on the bottom(saving it at home in a file for my future reload needs). that is just my $0.02. once again good luck.
