Bull. Shit. Counter-Strike Source had 93,500 people playing it when I checked last sunday. CS1.6 had another 69,000 people playing. TF2'd got 19,400 and l4d was in fourth place with 16,600 players.

All told valve had ~200,000 people playing just their top four games at 10:00AM on a freakin sunday. Call of Duty 4 regularly has less players than a HL2 mod (insurgency specifically) and barely beats it by a dozen or so players other times.

PC gamers are not utterly worthless, they are not a nonexistant or marginal market, and they are not a dying breed. IW/Activision and companies like them are just trying desperately to convince the world that the egg of poor-PC sales laid the chicken of shitty ports and consolization and not the other way around.

Which is about up there with figuring out how to make 2 + 2 = 4.

Everything currently points to it being flat out impossible. Not improbable, not a a tough problem to figure out (ie, usable fusion generators or something that is just a hard problem), but not physically possible.

Assuming that all insolvable problems will magically become not so given enough time and technology isn't a wise bet.

It's acting more like a diode, really, than just a wire, but yeah, you're basically on target.

It is also plastic: i.e. the neurons are free to associate with whatever electrodes they are most attracted to, just like in a biological brain. That means that the electrodes that are most active will receive the most connections, and thus the "wires" are self constructing according to "need" (or frequency of stimulation in a molecular biology sense).

emeraldd writes: I'd say this is a birthday worth remembering:
"If you load up the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) today, you'll see a new logo commemorating its 19th birthday. Yes, that's really old for the Internet. Google, by comparison, is 11. Meanwhile, Yahoo is 14. IMDb is so old in fact, that is pre-dates the first web browsers."

PLSQL Guy writes: "Duke Nukem Forever developer 3D Realms is shutting down, according to Shacknews, who cites 'a reliable source close to the company' who said the developer, along with the recently resurrected Apogee name, is finished and employees from both have already been let go. It looks like all of the Duke Nukem Forever jokes are turning into reality- it looks like DNF might turn out to be the ultimate vaporware after all."

Submission + - Court Sets Rules for RIAA Hard Drive Inspection (blogspot.com) 2

NewYorkCountryLawyer writes: "In a Boston RIAA case, SONY BMG Music Entertainment v. Tenenbaum, the Court has issued a detailed protective order establishing strict protocols for the RIAA's requested inspection of the defendant's hard drive, in order to protect the defendant's privacy. The order (PDF) provides that the hard drive will be turned over to a computer forensics expert of the RIAA's choosing, for mirror imaging, but that only the forensics expert — and not the the plaintiffs or their attorneys — will be able to examine the mirror image. The forensics expert will then issue a report which will describe (a) any music files found on the drive, (b) any file-sharing information associated with each file, and any other records of file-sharing activity, and (c) any evidence that the hard-drive has been 'wiped' or erased since the initiation of the litigation. The expert will be precluded from examining 'any non-relevant files or data, including ...emails, word-processing documents, PDF documents, spreadsheet documents, image files, video files, or stored web-pages.'"

Not Bioware, LucasArts. And it is Lucas's fault for rushing the game like 6 months early. And for clone part, ok, so the protagonist has amnesia. but storywise kotor 2 runs circles around kotor 1. also, dialog system is better and karma/influence should play major part in dialogue. but again, LucasArts rushed the game and made all the major cuts (robot factory and such). all the resources are on the disc, and afaik there is a team of people restoring the content.
