Tesla build-quality is horse crap.

Oh, look... Another person who thinks that just because things used to be true they need to always be true.

The build quality of Toyota was pretty crap in the 90s, too. Does this mean they are crap today? No. Because they improved. Just like Tesla did.

Ask Sandy Munro why he thinks Tesla has the best build quality in the car industry.

While it is true Tesla's build quality was quite bad in many cars pre-2020... Sandy Munro now sees them as the gold standard on build quality. And it is not easy to impress Sandy Munro when it comes to quality.

Tesla *did* have terrible build quality. They fixed their shit and now they have exceptional build quality. But it will take time to wash off that reputation since it was true a few years ago.

This does not mean Tesla is the best car or even that they have the models to suit everyone. Far from it, Tesla is leaving plenty of money on the table. The problem is, almost no one is moving to scoop up the rest, except for the Chinese EV manufacturers. It's like the iPhone all over again.

Eeeeh... No.

I'm going to take a nap. Wake me up when the competition can produce a Model 3 competitor in 5+ million units for $20k (not list price, but manufacturing price). This is where Tesla is at right now, and their next model is promised to be 30-50% cheaper to manufacture. Now, will we consumers see much of those savings? Not likely.

Does this mean I'm happy about it? No. Not really. If legacy auto won't rise to meet this before the end of 2023 then by 2027, GM, Ford, Stellantis, VW, BMW, Kia, Toyota et cetera are finished. Either bailed out by their respective governments or simply purchased by a Chinese firm as their premium brand.

Have the involved parties play in an all-meets-all tournament where cheating is more or less impossible.

Like, say, playing in only a robe, no cameras, jewelry, iPhones, smartwatches et cetera. Even glasses are provided by the arranger. No one may enter or leave the isolated space until all matches are concluded.

This would clear any wrongdoing much better than a court battle.

Difference was the reason you posted things. Back then it was about explaining about the things you hade an interest in, be it star wars, growing (legal) herbs or music trivia. Today it is mostly about shouting on the top of your lungs about things you mostly disagree with.

So for all intents and purposes the old web got essentially absorbed into Wikipedia (and offshoots like wookiepedia).

The rest of the web is one of three things, commerce (which still is shoehorned to this day), megaphones (News, Youtube, Facebook etc) and arguments (forums).

And to think, in my young days of yore I had to pay 2 quid an hour to have an argument. Fun times those... :D

Sure, sound quality isn't superb AAA+, but it is good enough. Like it or not the 3.5" jack is dying in consumer space.

Apple needs ramp up in the car space. Tesla and BYD will both produce over 2 million EVs next year, and BYD an additional 1 million EV. Noone else even comes close and Tesla MO is to keep evolving their factories.

Unless Apple announces a level 5 autonomous vehicle this fall and a volume of 5 million vehicles a year by 2025, I cannot see how on earth they can beat Tesla, much less the Chinese manufacturers. Heck, I cannot see how legacy auto keeps even 25% of their pre covid market share as things stand.

Nissan Leaf is 10+ year old at this point, as are its batteries which are notorius for fast degradation due to lack of a good thermal management system.

Meanwhile the modern batteries in Teslas with LFP chemistry are going to last at least 1 000 000 miles (1 600 000 km). At that point it is more likely the car will fall apart before the battery needs replacement. Heck, it is more likely the battery powers atleast two cars before it is retired as a powerwall.

Not all companies are like Tesla though so the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Yes it does matter. But then again, if you need big storage you almost certainly want to invest into a NAS in either case. At the beginning this can be a Raspberry Pi 4 with a 4 TB SATA HDD connected to it, but you definitely want to move on from there. RAID is pretty much dead at this stage, just go with BTRFS or ZFS instead, and just accept HDDs are slow MOFOs.

This, of course, requires some knowledge of what you're doing. Big storage in desktops is pretty much dead though, 2TB+ is just not necessary. Heck, *I* am a power user and gamer and I only use around 800 GB right now.

Macs? Not the great power/money ratio they once were, but sure, that is one option. Probably not though.

Linux? Oh please, you are delusional. If you didn't make the switch between the 7 -> 10 transition you won't switch now. And Microsoft knows it.

Stick to Windows 10? Yes, works until MS pull the plug in ~40 months.

Microsoft got you by the balls, and they know it. Have fun being their slave! :D
