I'm confused.
Facebook buys WhatsApp, which used to tout its famous end-to-end encryption.
Facebook gets called out for being able to intercept "encrypted" messages on WhatsApp in 2021
Facebook now claims to offer end-to-end encryption in their "Messenger" (copyright that!)

The reality is that FOSS is, by it's very definition, open. So anyone who finds a loophole, vulnerability, or vector of attack, should be able communicated back to the hive. But, the actual reality is that it requires major investment of time and money from the corporations who have embraced the underlying code.
