While I think that this will be very useful for our soldiers, I also can't help but wonder what happens when we start selling them to other countries, or some other country develops something similar. I imagine a future war being fought which is much more brutal than anything today.

Then again, I suppose any new weapon system can do the same thing. It's just that we're used to the idea of machine guns and mortars and smart bombs.

Exactly. Everyone spends time on sedentary entertainment, but way too many people in this country don't do anything truly active at all, and it hurts everyone economically because they end up unhealthy. It's weird to me how people can be so into watching sports on TV, but never get out and play themselves. I just don't get it.

But, then, I suppose there are a lot of things that I don't get...

I don't know, I could see Ahmadinejad going off about God speaking to him and telling him it was His Will to cleanse the holy sites of infidels in nuclear fire. It would be even worse if he actually truly believes in his religion, and truly believes he would be doing god's work. Then no cost would be too great. I don't really think this is true, Ahmadinejad seems like too much of a politician. I guess my point is, the more leaders of nuclear nations believe in fantasies, the more unpredictable and dangerous they are.

Science is far too diverse to categorize all scientists as one thing or another. The scientific process is our best (and really only tool) for determining what is physically true. Yes, scientists can abuse the process, or choose to disregard some evidence, but this kind of science won't stand up to peer review.

Good public policy should involve decisions based on fact, and that means a system where politicians, who make our decisions, are well informed by the scientific community, and the public understands through the media not only the facts but the reasons behind implementing them as policy. Of course this isn't really what we have today.
